Description
Summary:This article shows the results of an inventory of archaeological heritage (with an emphasis on archaeological sites with rock paintings) in the Escarpa Devoniana environmental protection area in the municipality of Ponta Grossa. The methods and techniques used to produce this research included mapping the archaeological sites, photographing all rock panels with rock paintings, producing digital decals, and conducting statistical analysis with graphics support. In total, 52 archaeological sites were inventoried. Over 14 thousand high-resolution images were obtained without flash, totalling over 160 gigabytes of files. Digital decals of 277 panels were produced, containing 1,212 figures painted by original people who inhabited the region hundreds until thousands of years ago. In addition, 12 lithic workshops, eight engravings, and four places where lithic and/or ceramic materials (with outcrops on the surface) were discovered. The work showed that many of the rock paintings that were not possible to observe were revealed through digital decals produced using image enhancement techniques, which shows how rich the records of these original communities are, in addition to revealing the diversity and abundance of rock paintings in the study area, which until then was not known for its archaeological potential.
