This regional focus responds to calls to move beyond the methodological nationalism that treats nation-states as the natural units of analysis for comparative analysis. The political and economic context of oil and tourism development in the five case study regions is examined. This is elaborated with a discussion of how the case study regions are responding to the challenges of climate change, as this a key part of the meta-context of the oil-tourism interface in the North Atlantic.
