An article on Rockland's renaissance. Christopher Crosman, director of the William A. Farnsworth Library and Art Museum, has piloted the institution through an ongoing expansion and persuaded Andrew and Betsy Wyeth to donate their priceless collection of Maine paintings to the museum. Several new restaurants have opened as a spinoff of that activity, including the Waterworks Restaurant. Rockland was recently ranked among the 100 most livable small cities in the country. The demise of the odoriferous SeaPro fish-rendering plant in 1989 opened up the harbor, which hosts the Great Schooner Races, the Friendship Sloop Society, and the North Atlantic Blues Festival. Several new businesses credit Crosman's initiative for their success and with helping to transform the rough-and-tumble city.
