Après la rupture épistémologique qu'introduisit la méthode structurale, les spécialistes des études mythiques sont confrontés à une nouvelle question, soulevée en France notamment par les travaux de Marcel Detienne et Claude Calame : le mythe a-t-il un statut ontologique ? Le colloque de Tromsoe "Myth and Symbol I", organisé par S. des Bouvrie, est d'autant plus intéressant qu'il réunit des spécialistes d'obédiences scientifiques traditionnellement opposées, les tenants de l'anthropologie française, plus ou moins marqués par le structuralisme et ses remises en question, et les tenants de l'anthropologie britannique, très dubitatifs vis-à-vis de ces types d'approche. Ces notes de lecture associent à un compte rendu du colloque quelques remarques personnelles sur les rapports qu'entretiennent, dans la Grèce archaïque et classique, ce que, par tradition et par convention, nous appelons mythe, la religion et la poésie. Myth's « veritable nature » in ancient Greece The structural method had introduced an epistemological break in myth studies and now specialists are confronted with a new issue raised in France particularly in the works of Marcel Detienne and Claude Calame : Has myth an ontological status ? The Tromsoe Conference, "Myth and Symbol I", organised by S. des Bouvrie, is all the more interesting as its brings together specialists that are traditionally opposed in their scientific approaches : the exponents of French anthropology, more or less steeped in structuralism and its questionings, and the exponents of British anthropology, who are very critical and doubtful about these types of approach. These reading notes include a review of the Conference as well as a few personal remarks concerning the relationships between what traditionally and conventionally is referred to as myth, religion and poetry in archaic and classical Greece.
