The Campanian-Maastrichtian boundary is characterised by the extinction of Globotruncanita calcarata species. Several species of the genus Globotruncana with two keels, for instance : C. area, G. linneiana, are abundant, also the species of the genus Globotruncanita : G. stuartiformis, G. insignis increased their numbers in the youngest beds of the lower Maastrichtian. These associations characterised the G. falsostuarti Zone. Above this zone may be defined a second one with a greater number of species than the former. Globotruncana esnehensis, G. contusa and Racemiguembellina fructicosa have their first apparition in this interval named the G. stuarti Zone. Eventually, a third zone, the youngest one, A. mayaroensis Zone, is characterised by its index species and the association of G. area, G. contusa, G. stuarti, Trinitella scotti, and R. fructicosa. The spiroconvex species are increased in this zone, and on the other hand can be tested a lowering specific diversity in the uppermost part. This event is gradual in nature, not catastrophic, and it is previous to the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary.
