Jusqu’à la fin des années 1970, les Lubicon vivaient en autarcie mais depuis 1980, l’exploitation à grande échelle des ressources pétrolières et forestières a pratiquement anéanti la société Lubicon. Les témoignages des Anciens, recueillis en 1982, reflètent l’image qu’ils ont de la tradition, ainsi que leur impuissance face au développement intensif de leur territoire. Nostalgic Memories of a Harmonious Society : The Lubicon Lake Cree Indians. This essay deals with the Lubicon Indian Cree nation of northern Alberta, whose memories of traditional life symbolize happiness. Until the end of the 1970s, the Lubicon lived exclusively by hunting, trapping and food gathering. From 1980 on, intensive exploitation of oil and gas, then of trees, has devastated Lubicon territory and traditional way of life. In 1982, Lubicon Elders were interviewed. Their testimonies reflect the image they have of tradition and of their helplessness when faced with massive resource exploitation. Le Puloch Marine.
