Mouina, Chief Warrior of the Tayehs

David Porter, captain of the US Navy ship Essex, visited Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands in 1813-14. His portrait shows Mouina fully accoutred with a complete tattoo, a club, triton-shell trumpet with toggle, sperm whale tooth necklet, ivory or wood ear ornaments and a feather headdress.
