Radiocarbon, d18O, winter sea ice, and summer sea surface temperature estimates from sediment cores TAN1302-96 and SO136-111
This dataset includes radiocarbon, d18O, winter sea ice concentration (wSIC), and summer sea surface temperature (sSST) estimates for marine sediment core TAN1302-96 (59.09°S, 157.05°E, water depth 3099 m), and recalculated wSIC and sSST estimates for SO136-111 (56.66°S, 160.23°E, water depth 3912 m...

Summary: | This dataset includes radiocarbon, d18O, winter sea ice concentration (wSIC), and summer sea surface temperature (sSST) estimates for marine sediment core TAN1302-96 (59.09°S, 157.05°E, water depth 3099 m), and recalculated wSIC and sSST estimates for SO136-111 (56.66°S, 160.23°E, water depth 3912 m). TAN1302-96: The 364 cm core was collected in March 2013 using a gravity corer during the return of the RV Tangaroa from the Mertz Polynya in Eastern Antarctica. The core is situated in the western Pacific sector of the Southern Ocean, on the southwestern side of the Macquarie Ridge. The radiocarbon and d18O data were used to construct the TAN1302-96 age model, which suggests the core extends back to at least 140 ka, covering a full glacial-interglacial cycle. Diatoms were sampled every 3-4 cm throughout the core, and wSIC and sSST estimates were produced using the Modern Analogue Technique (MAT). Both LOG and CHORD MAT outputs are included within this dataset. SO136-111: The 680 cm core was collected from the Emerald Basin in the East Indian sector of the Southern Ocean, south of the modern Antarctic Polar Front. The age model was constructed using a combination of radiocarbon and d18O stratigraphy, which show the core extends back to 290 ka. Diatoms were sampled every 2-5 cm throughout the core, and wSIC and sSST estimates were produced using the MAT. Both LOG and CHORD MAT outputs are included in the dataset. For original SO136-111 data, see Crosta et al., (2004). |
