Summary:Gospel Trumpet 1881-June 3, 1962, Vital Christianity June 10, 1962-Sept. 1996, One Voice June/July 2004-Apr/May 2007 - 1-- ero OSP d God shall BLOW the MUMPET and go wilh whirlwinds" Tou Misdon. mind is is enmity against God, not, subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." j— usRtiofimed. 8p: e r7s. o Dn, o setsi lnl oint dthwise lPl rboyv et hthisat ftohee, cannot please God, nor obey Him. There is a distinction between the new born child of God, and the carnal- mind— want- to- sin element within him. The new life takes sides with God against the old life, and cries out fair his d estruction, and while in that attitude he does please God and main-tain Spiritual life, and with Gospel teach-ing, will soon " mortify," " put to death," — the old man. But if this opposition to the inborn foe is allowed to subside, and he begin to compromise with the foe in Iris nature, and yield to the “ inotions of sin" within, and partake of what this evil bent lusts after, thus he begins to " live in the) flesh," and dies. Not one man out of a Hundred who has not gone on unto per-fect holiness, maintains a complete resist-ance cf this inner foe, and thereby retains the real joy of justification, and adoptim But most that have kept up a confessio of Christ for any considerable length o . . Your brother saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God. ' amber 19, and godli-to 14' sanctified- they were " babes in Christ." — 1 Cor. 3: 1. Many other Scriptures prove that the first grace inducts us . into Christ. The justified have the Spirit of adop-tion, the Spirit of Christ, as the whole New TeStament teaches, and every born again soul knews by happy experience, The Word saysr-- Gal. 3: 29, " If ye be Christ's then are ye Abraham's seed, And heirs ac-cording to the promise.", Namely heirs of the inheritance of perfect holiness. " Now if any man have not the spirit of Christ he is none of His."— Rom. 8: 9. No one can receive the inheritance of spir-itual Canaan until an heir, no one is an heir Until he is Christ's, and no one is Christ's until fle has the Spirit of Christ. Therefore the possession of the Spirit of Christ— the second. person— must precede the reception of the Sanctifier— the third person. In other words, you must be a son of God, and have the Spirit of Christ in your heart crying Abba Father, and witnessing that you are a new creature, unknown to this world.- 1 John 3: 1. Not of the world even as Christ was not of the world.— John 17: 1G. Let all teachers and workers in the vn e-yard of the Lord give Special attention to tune, without attaining perfect purifies tion, have but a form, and a religion cloaked morality. - Though the New Testament points tx entire sanctification, and urges every n ew born soul on unto that plain, as the prope ground on which to insure the preserva Lion of' our justification, and sonship. It i nevertheless true that this first grace is f complete. work. Justification, which is coincident with pardon, adoption, and re-generation, or being born again, removes all our sins, all guilt and condemnation, brings " peace with God," constitutes us the Lord's, in the relation of a son of God, implants the, grace of God, the Spirit of' adoption, which is a new - moral lit re, or nature— making us new creatures in Christ Jesus, And the new life inwrought, has the ascendency over the old man, so long as the soul keeps perfectly true to God. But the carnal nature, being a foe right in the temple, is very apt, as we have seen, to insinuate some of his lusts into the life, and work death to the new nature, unless destroyed. The idea that a soul is not in Christ, and not Christ's until wholly sanc-tified,- is contrary to the Scriptures, and can only remain in the mind of a person whose supposed justification was not up to Bible justification. In the same prayer in which Christ prayed the Father to sanctify the disciples, He said, " they are thine, and all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am. glorified in. thein."— john 17 : 9, 10. They were the Lord's then before sancti-fied wholly. The Corinthians were ad-dressed as " The Church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus."— Regeneration is sanctifi-cation begun,_ and what we usually call sanctification, is properly entire sanctifi-cation, ns we see in 2 Col'. 7: 1 1 Thess. 5: 23. Though carnal— not yet wholly if you cannot on the ocean Sail among the swiftest fleet, Booking on the highest billows, Laughing at the storms you meet, You can stand among the sailors, Anchored yet within the bay, you can lend a hand to help them, As they launch their boat away. If you are too weak to journey, lip the mountain, steep and high, you can stand within the valley, While the multitudes go by. you can chant in happy measure, As they slowly pass along; Though they may forget the singer They will not forget the song. if you have not gold and silver Ever ready to command, If you cannot toward the needy Reach an ever open hand, You can visit the afflicted, O'er the erring you can weep, you can he a true disciple, Sitting at the Savior's feet. If you cannot in the conflict Prove yourself a soldier true, If where the fire and smoke are thickest, There's no work for you to do, When the battle- field is silent, You can go with careful tread, You can bear away the wounded, You can cover up the death Do not then stand idly waiting For some greater work to do, Fortune is a lazy goddess, She will never come to you. Go and toil in any vineyard, Do not fear to do or dare, If you want a field of labor, You can find it anywhere. IS A JUSTIFIED MAN A SON OF GOD ? LL kind of extravagant, and errone-ous notions in these times of decep-tion are developing, for want of the Spirit Of God to guide men into all truth. The ouble with men is, they have a form of odliness, a inere sect religion, and not e witness of the Spirit to divine sonship, lid then seeking sanctification in- that con-lion, they get humble, and nearer to God, d begin to feel that they are a son, and ii think themselves wholly- sanctified. iud having for the first time the real feel-ings of a son of God, they, identify sonship with the second grace, whereas they have ly the first plain of Gospel experience. A brother in the West, whom we hope sincere, holds that -" a man is not a new eature until sanctified. Not Christ's, nor n Christ. That they have not the Spirit all until wholly sanctified. That they. ea child, but not a son." - These views e based chiefly upon the fact that the ustified have the carnal mind, which is direly against God, is not subject to God, idler indeed can be. Also that the flesh not yet crucified. And they that are in e flesh cannot please God."— Rom. 8 : 8. The " flesh," from " Barka," denotes the born unrighteous nature. To understand Ills subject in the light of the Word o Od, we must learn to make a distinction etween the inbeing of this inward foe dour living in him. The former im-lies that we have not yet had the " flesh" lie old man" destroyed. The second replies that our life is carried by his cur-d, that we are in his controling power. They that are in the flesh cannot please d." Namely, in the control of the flesh. a the fifth verse explains, to be " in the esh," is to be " after the flesh," and " mind Ile things of the flesh." As also the 13th e rne' " For if ye live after the flesh, ye hall die: but if ye through the Spirit do ortify the deeds of the body ( body of n ) ye shall live." This text is a key to. the seventh chapter. It applies the Pict-ere there drawn to unsanctified brethren , Rin Rime. While in 8: 2, the Apostle test-lees that lie, himself was free from that sal state. The language of 8: 13, shows that the parties there represented were 0111 of Ood, had spiritual life. Else they he not die, by yielding to the heat of Ile flesh, or body of sin. Hence the Its etion of the flesh, or body of sin, is an elPerience for quickened, or spiritually he aurrected children of God. For sinners Tah Ve no Spiritual life to lose, cannot die. e newly bo r n soul then has the " carnal Midi' the " flesh," the " old man," " the UklY of sin ,"— these are all the same thing he does not live in obedience to him, 0: 4 keeps the evil bent in subjection- to or8neW nature, by the power of the grace 1 .1°&, And is gentinually longing to be ' 7 delivered from him by the sanctify- 1 a of - 01Psigt Th pupI . le ORrral DOCTRINE OF DEVILS. For Ilse whole Bible no more teaches manhood, He is declared to have been " God mani-test in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached to the Gentiles, ! relieved on in the world, and received up to glory."
