As the branch eon not bear fruit of it self, except it abide in the vine; no more ean ye. except ye abide in me." Now, the fruit- bearing branches are those that obey the Word. They forsake the world and the things of the world. They have no fellow- P with the - unfruitful works of darkness. They do not receive the grace of God in vain. I am speaking of justified persons. Praise God! They do not go to fairs, shows, and church frolics; they do not go into those ungodly secret chambers. They do Lot vote to license the saloon- keeper to sell strong drink; they do not drink any strong drinks, nor smoke nor chew tobacco; neither do they drink tea nor coffee; they do not conform to this world, they do not wear gold nor jewelry of any kind. The sisters do not wear dead birds nor plume nor paper flowers, nor any other unneces sary trimmings on their hats, nor do they and while they are imploring God to bless them, they sing, " There is a gate that stands ajar,. that opens free for all." But you come to their gate and the porter says, " You must pay a dime, or you can not get in." Then the preacher takes for his text John 10 : 9, " I am the door : by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pas-ture." But at this fence the porter stays and tells you if you want to go in and out you must give $ 1.00, and buy a ticket to show to the porter that you want to go in and out. Now I am not talking at ran-dom, nor from hear- say. I was there my-self and lniow this to be true. These are the fruit- bearers of sect holiness. " They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace when there is no peace." Jer. 8: 11. A neighbor of mine was steward of- asect that cormnuned every Lord's day. He would come home drunk every time he went to town. He came home one Satur-day evening so drunk he had to go to bed almost as soon as he got to his house, and on Sunday morning he was at his post and blessed the bread and wine. Well did one of the prophets say, " Their tables are full of vomit." One of their members, asked me what kind of religion I supposed they had. He said they go to Sunday- school and communion; they rub clothing and will not speak together. Well, I just said, That must be the devil's Lind. So they must be the devil's fruit- bearing branch-es. The AI B.' s at a certain time had what they called a high- kicker social. They stretched a curtain across the meeting-house. and the men were on the dark side of the curtain and the women on the light. The women would do the kicking and the men were to watch for the highest kicker, and she got the prize. Now if the devil had any shame about him, such abomina-ble doings would make him blush. Oh, what an awful day is coming upon these poor deluded souls. They are doing these abominable things under a cloak of religion. I think the devil has to enlarge his cloak, they can not hide the cloven foot. Oh, what fruit these branches are bearing! They can go to fairs, festivals, concerts, shows, grab- bags, ring- kicks, donkey so-cials, and sometimes to a dance. About a year ago I was called to the bed of my dy-ing brother in the flesh. I staid with him seven weeks; and in this time one of the seven churches in that town had one of these frolics. One of the leaders was tell-ing what a time they had and how mad they got at each other. For supper a couple had to pay 50c., for the supper and dance. $ 1.00. The supper was in the meet-ing- house and the dance in the hall. It seems some of these sect preachers are getting ashamed of their ungodly do-ings. Now they are giving the young peo-ple what they call sinless socials. An M. E. had a protracted meeting in a little town, and succeeded in getting quite a few to join. After he closed the meeting he in-vited the young people to come to his house and bring their violins and their suppers, and they could have a good time. After they had gathered in they sang a few hymns and the preacher knelt in prayer, invoking God's blessing upon their com-ing together. After prayer he gave them liberty to spend the evening in any way to have a good time. After supper, the preacher said this was a sinless social. He gave them another invitation, and said, ` Any time you want another sinless social, come to my house.' It does seem that the devil is getting ashamed of some of the abominable- doings, so he is getting them ish pins just, because it is the tide of the world they do not want tucks, ruffles or lace trimmings on their children. Thank God, they have no desire for such things. Now these are the fruit- bearing branches. Now we will see what the ( 1,, •- sr of these fruit- bearing branches is : " Having there-fore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filminess of the flesh and spirit, perfecting toliness in the fear of God." 2 Cor. 7: 1. These branch-es were made holy from their committed sins when they became branches, or when they entered in the door, which is Christ. Paul says, " I beseech you therefore. breth-ren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, accept-able unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world : but be ye transformed by the re-newing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and per-feet will of God." Rom. 12: 1, 2. " If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; even the spirit of truth; whom the world can not receive." John 14: 15- 17. We must be fruit- bearing branches before we can receive " another" Comfort-er, by which we are sanctified. The world ( sinners) can not receive him because they see him not, neither know him. " But ye know him, for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." Praise God for an ever-lasting Comforter; one that will abide with the fruit- bearing branches forever and ever! Now all these fruit- bearing branch-es will work in the light of the gospel and if they hear a voice, saying, " Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her Iilagues," they will obey. " Be ye not wi-lily yoked together with tmbelievers: for what fellowship bath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what commun-ion bath light with darkness? . and what agreement bath the temple of God with` • Ils?" Praise God ! it is not a sect god, ut a God that will dwell in them and walk them. " I will be their God, and they tall be my people. Wherefore come out nom among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." 011, thank God for the glorious light of the gospel, and for the fruit- bearing branches. They do not give heed to seducing spir-its and doctrines of devils. They will not wept, doctrines of devils, such as milieu-nialism, spiritualism, Christian science, sectism, or any other ism. They will have no part nor lot in the ungodly, abominable doings that are carried on in these so- called churches. They visit the sick, feed the hungry, and clothe the poor; they dress plain, neat, and clean; they are kind and affectionate one to another, and do as they wish to be done by. Praise God, these are the fruit- bearing branches of the true vine. Now we will take up the other side, and see what kind of fruit their branches bear. We will show what these sect holiness camp- meetings do. They build high fences around their camp- ground, and they have a gate you can not get in unless you pay a dime. The preacher says, " Let us praise God, my friends, as we sing this glorious old gospel hymn, " Salvation's free for you and me.' " But another voice falls from the breeze, " 10c. admission, if you please." s It is the gate: keeper this time. And after _ they have sung Salvation's free, then they get down and thank God for full and free - salvation, and call on him to bless them; under another garb to hide their ungodli-ness. " His watchmen are blind : they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they can not bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shep-herds that can not understand : they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter. Isa. 56: 10, 11. " The way of peace they know not." Isa. 59 : 8. " Woe be unto the pastors that de-stroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord." Jer. 23 : 1. " Behold, they shall be as stubble the fire shall burn them they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall' not be a coal to warm at, nor a fire to sit before it." Isa. 47: 14. " Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make in-tercession to me : for I will not hear thee." Jer. 7: 16. " He said also unto me, turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abomina-tions that they do." Ezek, 8: 13. 0 my Lord, what fruit- bearing branches these are! " If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch;" he is entirely cut off from the true vine. Now we will see some of the greater abominations. We will see what the apos-tle says about these abominable fruit- bear-ing, branches. " This know also, that in the - last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, Un-holy, without natural affection, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady. high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God having a form of godliness. but denying the power there-of : from such turn away." 2 Tim. 3: 1- 5. Thank God. some have turned away and have escaped the plagues that have come upon Babylon. " Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron." " And for this cause God shall send them strong. delusion. that they should believe a lie; that they all might be damned who be-lieve not the truth. but had pleasure in unrighteousness." Oh, how many ministers have been call-ed to preach the gospel, but to- day they are preaching doctrines of devils; they are deceived and are deceiving many. Truly, sectism is in an awful condition to- day. They are spewed out and God will not smell in their assemblies. He will not hear a prayer that is offered for them. Truly the revelator foresaw what sectism would come to when he heard the angel cry " mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon [ sectism] the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. . And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my peo-ple, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." Oh, what abomination these fruit- bearing branches must be in the sight of God, and yet they are ruling the whole world and deceiving souls by the millions. 0 ye ministers of the gospel that are standing as it were on the sea, you should blow the trump of God cry aloud, and spare not fear neither man nor devils. Truly, this world is ready for the great judgment to come at any time. Therefore SCATTERING SEEDS OF KINDNESS. 13Y GRACE E. KRIEBEL. Do we know that we are building, For eternal joys, while here, A rich temple that's unspotted from this world of sin and care? Are we scattering seeds of kindness Everywhere along our way? Has the darkness of the tempest Changed to one bright joyous day? Arc we joyful in temptations When by Satan we are tried? Have we found that in the secret Of Ood's presence we may hide? When the storms beat all around us, And the tempest seems so high, Then ' tis that our loving Savior To his arms would have us fly. We will setter light and sunshine O'er this world while yet we may, And be faithful in temptation. Bear the trials of the day. If we but live true, devoted, To his liivssetl holy Word, We will reap what we are sowing, In that brighter. future world. It means much to be a soul winner for Christ. Not only is it having a knowledge of the Word and a gift of prophecy ( preaching), but it is laboring with a bur-den upon our hearts for lost and deceived soul. s. We must have the love that Jesus had when he said, " Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Again, God the Father, speaking of Christ our example, in Isa. 42: 1- 4, says, " Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth. I have put my Spirit upon him; he shall bring forth judg-ment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench : he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be dis-couraged, till he have set judgment in the earth; and the isles shall wait for his law." We must show sinners that we love them, and what we do for them, we do because we love them. We may quote Scripture and leap and shout in the pulpit, in our zeal; but without that undercurrent of love for souls flowing through our hearts, it will avail nothing. Listen to the words of the inspired Paul: " Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity [ love] , I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal." 1 Cor. 13: 1. Please read the rest of the Chapter. " And they that be wise [ teach-ers, margin] shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever." Dan. 12: 3. A winner of souls must be a wise teach-er. Hear what Paul says in his letter to the Corinthian brethren. " And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; to them that are without law, as without law, ( being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak. I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some." 1 Cor. 9: 20- 22. Paul was a successful evangelist. He stud-ied to know how to approach men in their different conditions. We do not find him feeding strong meat to babes in Christ, but the sincere milk of the Word. 1 Cor. 3: 2. I have known ministers to come into a neighborhood where the Word had not been taught before in its fulness; and in their sermons, set forth not only the milk, but all of the strong meat of the Word; and, by adding a little seasoning of their own, make it so strong that the people would throw up the whole of it, and close the doors against the truth, and build up a strong spirit of prejudice that time alone will destroy. In Paul's second letter to Timothy he exhorts him to study to show himself " approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Tim. 2: 15. We would not think a workman skil-ful that would attempt to put the roof up-on a building before the foundation was laid. While it means much to get souls saved, it also means very much to keep them en-couraged. Right here, brethren, is where a mistake is made. Some who we ) mow have an unmistakable call to the ministry as an evangelist only obey the call when the duties of their farms or other secular duties do not claim them so strongly, there-by making the call of God a secondary matter. Perhaps in the interval they take the oversight of some local assembly when they have not been called to this branch of the work of the Lord; and the result is that the church suffers loss. " And he [ Christ] gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists and some, pastors and teachers." Eph. 4: 11. If the clear Lord has given you to the church as an evangelist, you will not please God nor be a success, unless you abide in your call-ing. Some will say, for an excuse, It seems that the Lord has no one to shepherd the flock " Mat is that to thee?" You obey the Lord in your gift, and get out of the way of the little ones, and the Lord will supply4he need. We do not read of Tim-otl*. orOritus locating in any certain place. Tiinothy was to do the work of an evan-gelist, and Titus was left in Crete to set inaorder OA things wanting, and was to - go'to other cities and ordain elders. James, the overseer of the church at Jerusalem, abode in his calling until the day of his death, history tells us. Brethren, let us know where we are placed in the body, and be content to abide in our calling. Do not try to place yourself in the body ( church). " But now hath God set the members ev-ery one of them in the body as it hath pleased him." 1 Cor. 12: 18. The Spirit of Christ. BY J. T. GIBBINS. 44M OW if any man have not the Spirit 1. N of Christ, he is none of his." Rom. 8: 9. What must we do to have the Spirit of Christ? Answer, Obey. " Behold to obey is better than sacrifice, and to harken than the fat of rams." 1 Sam. 15: 22. " Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and he more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil." Eccl. 5: 1. " Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not fashioning your-selves according to the former lusts in your ignorance : but as he which has called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. 1 Pet. I: 13- 15. Let us look at some of the commands of Jesus to the apostles that will witness to the world that we have the Spirit of Christ. " Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in ' him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof : but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever." 1 John 2: 15- 17. " Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friend-ship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." Jas. 4: 3, 4. " Be not conformed." Rom. 12: 2. What is it to be a friend to the world? let the Word answer. " I will therefore that men pray ever y where, lifting holy hands, without wrath and doubting. In like man-ner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array." 1 Tim. 2: 8, 9. " In like manner, the women, also, in be-coming attire, with modesty and soberness of mind, not decorating themselves with wreaths, or gold, or pearls, or expensive clothing." Emphatic Diaglott. " Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorn-ing of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price." 1 Pet. 3: 3, 4. " Whose decoration, let it not be that of external one, of braiding the hair, and putting on of gold chains, or wearing of apparel but decorate the hidden man of the heart with what is incorruptible,- a meek and quiet spirit, which is very pre-cious in the sight of God." Emphatic Dia-glott. Read Isa. 3: 16- 25. The Word says, " Be not conformed." To disobey the above scriptures is conformity, and not the Spirit of Christ. Would the Holy Spirit have ' recorded the above if it had not been the will of God for us to obey? When God speaks is he trifling? Dare we conform when God says. " Be not conformed"? When we put en gold, gay or expensive clothing it is for no other purpose, only to be seen of men, and to receive their ap-plauses. Mat. 6: 5. This is not the Spirit of Christ. Jesus' test of discipleship is, - If a man love me, he will keep my words." John 14: 23. You say, " I can do more good for the cause not to be so radical." Dare you conform for that reason when God says, " Be not con-formed"? You answer, " God has not condemned me yet." Dare you conform for that reason? It is evident that you are not living close enough to God to be condemned by his Word. Jesus says. " And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off." Why? " It is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched." Mark 9: 43- 45. - When we go on from day to day and disobey these few plain teachings, have we the Spirit of Christ? Are we abiding in his doctrine, when the Word says, " Who-soever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God"? 2 John 9. God's eternal truth draws the line of eternal judgment upon us, and we must measure to it ( John 12: 48), if we expect to abide in the day of his comin g. " Ev-ery sin that a man doeth is without the body." 1 Cor. 6: 18. We can not remain in the body of Christ and sin ( John 15: 2) for Jesus is pure, and if we abide in him our fruit will be pure, and will stand to be measured by his Word. Praise the Lord! Some Shall Fall. BY WM. WALKER FITZWATER. 44 ND some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge. and to make them white, even to the time of the end." Dan. 11: 35. No doubt there have been many of the saints in this evening light reformation severely tried, and perhaps some have doubted whether or not this was God's ref-ormation, all on account of some of the ministers of understandin g falling. True, there are some whom God has used in the past that he can not use now; like Saul ()- old, while they were little in their own sight, God could use them: but after a while they became exalted and proud. " Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Prov. 16: 18. " Whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." Mat. 23: 12. If those preachers had kept low and humbl y. there would have been a chance for them to be exalted, and they would not have had to exalt themselves, but God would have lift-ed them up in due time. The apostle says, " Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility : for God re-sisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore un-der the mighty hand. of God, that lie may exalt you in due time." 1 Pet. 5: 5, 6. Any proud person, much less a proud preacher, can not be used of God at all, be-cause they hold themselves up to the people as being some great one, instead of hold-ing up Christ as a perfect Savior. So, it need not shake the faith of any if some preacher of understanding of this reformation falls; because the text says, " Some of understanding shall fall to try them." Indeed, it will try them, whether or not they are converted to the preacher or to the truth. Of course, if people are converted to the preacher, and he falls, they are liable to fall too; but if a person is converted • to the truth, as it is in this evening light reformation, and holds to it with an unwavering faith, they will never fall; " for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall." Sad, indeed, it is to read some works of former preachers, and see what great understanding of the Word God had given - them, then look at them now. It makes our hearts swell within us. But, to look at it on the other hand, it is only a fulfilment of the prophecy in our text. Some of understanding shall fall to try them. If the devil could get all the saints to take their eyes off from Christ and place them on some fallen preacher whom they once esteemed highly for his work's sake, it would he as grand a thing as he would want to destroy their spirituality. Dear saints, " Be sober, be vigilant; be-cause your adversary the devil, as a roar-ing lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. Whom resist steadfast in the faith." .1 Pet. 5: 8, 9. God's truth is here to stay. This - reformation is of God; and even if all the preachers of under-standing at the present tu' ne were to get lifted up with pride, and fall, God's truth will never fall. A brother said for three years he lived above the world, and would not have stooped down to pick up its choicest gems, until at length a neighbor told him that eighty acres could be bought. As soon . as his mind began to plan for it, he lost that blessed nearness to God, and has never regained it. Could you, brother or sister, see the earth melting with fervent heat, would you consider your savings worth anything? Or if this week was your last week on this sphere, what would you do with the Lord's money you have? " Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?" was the question Saul asked the Savior, and Jesus told him, " It shall be told thee what thou must do." " To one Jesus said, " Sell all that thou last, and distribute unto the poor." It is said of the early church in Acts 2: 44, " And all that believed where together, and had all things common; and sold their pos-sessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need." We notice their experience by reading the rest of the chapter. If it should come to that in this evening dispensation, how many are ready for the sacrifice? The apostolic standard must be preached and lived, and then the signs will follow; and it will be said of some as was said of Stephen, Philip, and Barnabas: " And Stephen, full of faith and power did great wonders and miracles among the people." " Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the mira-e. les and signs which were done." Reflections on John I: 1- 10. uv G. ' W. CAREY. 1. THE WORD OF LIFE 16 GIVEN TO FALLEN HUMANITY. " That which was from the hoginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with OW: eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life." Ver. 1. This Word of life was Who was in the beginning. In the beginning was the Word. and the \ Vold was with ( led, and the Word was ( b d. The : Ante was in the beginning with ( W. John 1: 1, 2. '' And the Word was wade flesh, aml dwelt z000ng us, Land we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Fa 11C1', full of graa" and truth." john 1: 14. The Word was God, altieh designates it Jehovah, the supreme ruler with all power, who alone is worthy lo receive " glory and honor and power." And, this Word was made flesh. Here is humanity and divinity beautifully blended toaether. The joy of the whole earth, and the wonder of heaven. First, we have humanit y without sin, pattern; a model or spots to mar 2. John could. speak with authority because of actual experience; and so may every child of God who steps into the cleansing stream and lets the cleansing virtues pass through their souls, and have the life of Christ within. For we can not but speak the things which we have seen and heard. Ver. 3. 3. SALVATION BRINGS TO Tla- F, SOUL PEACE, aovE, AND JOY. ." And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full." Ver. 4. In regeneration, the peace and love of God fills the soul, and holy joy in-variably accompanies the pardoning love; but this joy is not in its fulness until th. e soul is sanctified. " If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth." Ver. 6. Fellowship exists only with the saved souls, and can be received from the Father as that soul Walks in the light. And, if we continue to walk in_ the light, then we have fellowship one with another. Ver. 7. And while we have this fellowship, the blood of Jesus will cleanse us from ail sin. Dear ones, - are you walking up to all the light you have? Then you may press on for the cleansing from all sin. The carnal mind is a dangerous element to exist in the heart and must be extri-cated, rooted out, and taken away,. or it will give you trouble. It is a lion in a cage, chained down, and overpowered; but it is liable to break those chains and come forth when least expected. The blood of Jesus has power to make this cleansing complete. In justification, or regeneration by faith, the stains of committed sins are removed, or blotted out and remembered no more forever. The new life has been produced by the Spirit of God, and the new life is manifested in loving the things God loves, and hating the things that God hates. In sanctification by faith through the blood the work is now made deeper; the blood now goes behind the action, and reaches the_ root of bitterness, the cause of all evil, and cleanses this depraved nature away. Praise God! This work leaves the soul like its Maker; like the Word and flesh which were blended together for the rescue of fallen humanity. The soul's de-liverance from the fallen nature makes the body a temple fitted for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit; yes, a fitted place for the holy trinity, where Christ is enthroned a lovely king, a complete conqueror over every foe. Under the gentle, mild sway of this divine sovereign, the soul has perfect peace, fulness of joy, and tender con-sciousness of every imagination and every high thing that exalteth itself against Cod, being brought down and every thought brought into captivity to the Lord Jesus Christ. Brother, are you living this holy life? Is this Reformation a Sect? Holy Ghost, meant to be a perfect Chris-tian, and none the less to- day. Such was the established church. Now, to depart from the doctrine and practises of it, is seetism. To depart from one sect and go into another sect, is of no use. Sectism is made up of all dissensions from the first heresy that appeared after Jesus had built his church until now. They are many. Rome, which is indeed the mother of all sects, is called " The mother of harlots." Most all the modern sects acknowledge the Roman Catholic church to be the mother church. She is not, however, the mother church, but the mother sect. She is the greatest dissension from the true church that Jesus built, that is known, and the farthest from its doctrine and practises. Neither the Catholic church nor any of the daughters that have been born of her are the church Jesus built. The whole is only a mass of confusion, and dissension from the church of God. The whole is only an apostate religion founded not up-on the Rock, Christ, not upon the foun-dation that he laid, but upon their own peculiar and perverse opinions, which they have invented. Let me say that to depart from their ungodly doctrines and prac-tises, and accept and obey the Bible, does not make a sect. A sect is a party of men who depart from an established church; not from a sect to the established church. We are sometimes called the " disciples of D. S. Warner," " Warnerites," etc. Though we follow him in faith and prac-tise ( which we would by no means deny), yet this does not make a sect. Because we follow him does not any more make us Warnerites, than were those Corinthians, Ephesians, etc., Paulites because they fol-lowed him. Paul said, " Be ye followers of me as also I am of Christ." All who follow Christ, we will follow; and all who do not follow him, we will not follow. We do not marvel that this reformation is called a sect : God's church was called a sect at the beginning, but such could not be proved; and though it be called a sect now, it can not be proved. D. S. Warner did not build a sect. He did not organize anything, or something, and give it a name, and then take members into it himself, and call it a church. He preached that God had a church and that he took the members into it himself. He preached that men must obey all the Word of God to get to heaven, thus showing by the Scriptures the true standard of Bible holiness, and what constituted true Chris-tianity. There were many who were saved through his instrumentality; and to- day many souls are rejoicing in a full and free gospel, and obeying all of God's Word. So, we have not dissented from the estab-lished church and formed a sect, nor have we dissented from one sect and formed another; but we have dissented from the multitude of sects; and now stand complete in Christ. Halleluiah to God I We have got back to the original established " church of the first born," " whose names are writ-ten in heaven." Some of us were of the sects of Meth-odism and some of us were of the sects of the Baptists; others, Winebrennerians; and others, United Brethren in Christ, etc. But, now we are one in Christ Jesus. We have no church of our o wn. We are saved from saying, " my church." We do not ask any one to " join" our church. The disciples of Christ were called Christians ( Acts 11: 26), and were called saints. 1 Cor. 1: 2; Rom. 1: 7. As a body, or whole, they were called the church of God. Acts 20 2S; 1 Cor. 1 2, and these names may be Scripturally applied to true believers at this time. No true saint is ashamed of any of the above titles, though they may sound reproachful to many. FRESH OIL. " But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil." Psa. 92: 10. How neces-sary it is for the child of God to get this fresh anointing. It is like the manna.; it must be gathered fresh every day. Some dear souls sadly neglect this important matter. How dry the prayer, testimony, or sermon, where this fresh anointing is lacking. Eloquent words and fair speech-es can not supply this lack. All fall upon the ear like dead words. The preacher may say many truthful things, and with forci-ble logic; the scripture may be rightly ap-plied, and it may be real clear in doctrine but it does not speak to the heart. We may testify straight and radical and defi-nite, and thank God for sanctification, and that we are out of Babylon, but all will sound dry and lifeless without the fresh anointing. Like a machine without oil, which grates upon the ear; so the tes-timony, prayer, or sermon without the fresh anointing, grates upon the soul. 0 beloved saints, let us constantly keep in. line with God through perfect obedience; then let us not be satisfied with the single fact, that we are out in the faith which was once delivered unto the saints; but let us daily and continually keep anoint-ed with fresh oil, for every duty . and ser-vice. It is good, to know that we were sanctified twenty, ten, or several years, or months ago, and that we can mark the time and place definitely; but that fact alone is not sufficient. It is good to know that the Holy Spirit has come into our hearts and filled us with his glorious pres-ence, distinctly and definitely in the past; but this fact alone does not serve unto us the sufficient strength for the immediate present day and hour. We must have the anointing with fresh oil, so that our strength will be like that of an unicorn. J. W. B. 1 Am the Lord that Healeth Thee. WHAT THE LORD DID FOR MY CHILDREN. I feel it would be to the glory of God to tell what the Lord has done for me in healing my little ones. A few weeks ago my little boy, aged eight years, had a very bad cold. He had fever, and coughed very hard. Some nights he would cough nearly all night. My husband wanted to get some medicine for him, but I told him he would be better in a few days. I trust-ed him in the hands of the Lord, and, praise the Lord I he got well. Our little boy, almost three, took sick the same way with a high fever, and a cough and was quite sick for a few days; and I kept trusting in God to heal him, and he did so. Pray for me; I am alone in this place. There are no saints around within a hun-dred miles that I know of. I wish some of God's true ministers would come to this place and preach the Word in its purity. The people need a waking up to see where they are going and what they are doing. Oh, it makes my heart ache to see the peo-ple so careless about their souls' salvation. My prayer is, that God will send some one to this place this summer. It seems to me that Nebraska has been sadly neglected in the gospel work. Please pray for my fam-ily that they may all be saved, and for me that I may be sanctified, and where the Lord wants me to be. I can not praise the dear Lord enough for his healing power. Some time ago my seven- year- old daughter showed unmistakable symptoms of diabetes, and continued to fail in health, notwithstand-ing all our earthly efforts to the contrary, until she was so poorly that we had to take her out of school. Then I sent to the Trumpet Office for an anointed handker-chief, which I applied in the name of the Lord, believing John 14: 12- 14; 15: 16; 16 : 23 and she immediately began to im-prove, and in a week's time, I believe, is healed. He also healed her of sore throat. He healed me several years ago of indi-gestion, etc. Praise his holy name ! He has taken all desire to sin out of my heart; and to any one who repents, and believes on his blessed promises, he will do the same for them. He has given me strength to resist the enemy. That was the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. Ver. 9. 2. SAVING POWER WAS INVESTED IN HIM. " But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them which believed on his name." John 1: 12. And again we read. " Behold what manner of love the Father hath be-stowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." 1 John 3: 1. The inspired writer had seen this Word with his eyes, and handled it with his hands, and had also experienced the real fact of it being the Word of life. FORREST. • HL word sect is from seco, to cut off to separate. A sect is a denomination which dissents from an established church. Dissent means to disagree; to differ; to dif-fer from an established church in regard to doctrines, rites, or government. The fact that we differ from others in regard to doctrine, rites, or government, is not a proof that we are a sect. The meaning of sect is a denomination which dissents ( differs from an established church) in re-gard to doctrine, etc. We will examine this particular point briefly. Jesus said in Mat. 16: 18, " Upon this rock I will build my church." Paul said to the Ephesians, " And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cor-ner stone." Paul said to the Corinthians, " Other foundation can no man lay." Jesus built the only orthodox church. He laid the only true foundation for a Bible church. No other man could lay such a foundation. That church was built and fully established and set in order in the days of Christ and the apostles. The doctrine pertaining to that church— its rites and government— is found in the New Testament. No other was needed to make the members perfect. Jesus' own words, together with the prophecies con-cerning him, were sufficient for reproof, for instruction, etc. Nothing was necessary to be added. When. you are severely tested, try to help some one else out of trouble. When Jesus was sorely tried, he prayed earnestly for himself and for others who were in need of help. Just sit down and let the devil have his way about everything, and you are sure to have a hard time of it. It is sometimes thought that the Chris-tian's way is a very rough road, beset with many trials, temptations and troubles, and denied the pleasures of life. The one who starts out to take Christ with one hand and the world with the other is sure to have a hard road, with but lit-tle spiritual enjoyment; as the Word says, We can not serve God and mammon. The way of the true Christian may lead through some difficult places with oppo-sitions and persecutions, but there are spiritual enjoyments which far exceed the pleasure of this world, of which the world knows nothing. There are joys and victories and pleasures which are lasting and which give an assurance of eternal happiness in the end. MORNING TALKS. Be sure that you have a talk with the Lord at the beginning of each day. Do not forget to thank him for his protection during the night, for what he has done for you in the past and is doing at the present time, for supplying your needs, and then ask his guidance during the day. Open up such close commtinion or conversation with him insomuch that you can as a friend tell him concerning all your affairs, and he will give you the necessary grace, strength and wisdom. ACQUAINT YOUBSPLP wITH HIM. Let your communion with the Lord be so frequent that he will not appear like a stranger to you, nor you feel that you are a stranger in his presence. Learn to trust him not only for the . keeping of your soul, but for your daily needs, and also for the healing of your body. In case of sickness or accident, it does not take long to send an effective message to the Lord if you are well acquainted with him. In case some unexpected circumstance takes place dur-ing the day that is likely to cause dis-aster, in a moment a message can be sent up to the Lord for his help, that he might overrule everything to his glory and for your good. PITFALLS OP SATAN. In these last days the enemy of souls has made many pitfalls or snares in order to entrap unsuspecting people— almost every device imaginable in order to counterfeit or lead souls from the true way. False churches are organized to represent the true church of God; false agents of every note and character, even secret societies try to put a moral and religious label in front of their doors of iniquity. Another scheme of the devil is labeled Christian science, in order to catch those who are religiously inclined; and another one is labeled Spiritualism in order to catch those who have a desire to be spiritual, but who have not learned all the enemy's de-vices on this line. Spiritualism, Hypno-tism, and Christian science all belong to the same family, and originated and are carried on by the powers of darkness. MAGNETIC PEA T ENG In whatever way God has set forth a plan to manifest his power, the devil has tried to counterfeit it, and if possible pushes the counterfeit in ahead of the genuine, so as to disgust the people or defeat the plan of the Lord. In the time of Moses andAaron., when they threw down the rod and it be-came a serpent, the magicians did likewise, counterfeited the very act and perform-ance to thus baffle the men of God, and would have completely deceived those who witnessed the same, had it not been that God caused the serpent, which Moses ' and Aaron caused to be made to swallow up the other serpents. In the days of Paul, when he was doing some wonderful works on the line of healing the sick and the power of God was being manifested through him, a damsel was going about doing many wonderful things among the people, causing her masters to receive great gain. She followed Paul for a few days, finally he turned to her and commanded the evil spirit to come out of her, that spirit of divination, and from that very moment she had lost her power. This caused her keepers to become greatly en-raged against Paul and those who were teaching the gospel way. In these days when the Word of God is being preached in. all its purity, with the signs following and the sick being healed, the devil is sendng forth his mes-sengers, doing his work under various names and titles. In places where people have become disgusted with spiritualism and mesmerism and have seen the evil effect of such, he has given it a more mod-ernized name, Hypnotism, setting it forth as a wonderful means of helping people in their life work, healing of diseases, etc. As that is being exposed as of the devil and people who have taken up with it are being bound by the powers of Satan un-til they are unable to break his fetters to get saved without having the evil spirits cast out, and many becoming insane through the effects of it, again its name has been changed to that of magnetic healing, Weltmerism, etc. They even have schools to instruct people on these lines, charging from $ 5.00 to $ 50.00 for a course of lessons. The leaders do not deny this power being hypnotism, do not deny that it is the same power as used by the magicians and astrologers of old, of which the Word of God says, That they that do such things have their part in the lake of fire. Those who tamper with such things do so at the risk of their souls, and can only find deliverance through Jesus Christ and forsaking the same. ALMOST CAMP- MEETING TIME. Already we can feel the power of the Holy Spirit moving in behalf of the com-ing camp- meeting, and the overshadow. ing blessings of the Lord are already drop-ping down. People are coming in from a distance to get saved and healed, and de-livered from the powers of Satan, and God is abundantly manifesting his power. We realize the effects of the prayers of the saints scattered abroad in behalf of the meeting and are expecting a glorious time in the name of the Lard. By the time of the first day of the meeting we expect to meet a host of our readers and saints of God and many others who are seeking the way, in a general convocation to worship the Lord. If you have not already ar-ranged to come, make arrangements at once, sacrifice a few days' work and come in the name of the Lord and you will surely be repaid by way of spiritual help and divine grace. If you are richly pros-pering in your soul there will be many here seeking help from the Lord for the salvation of their souls, healing of their bodies and deliverance from the powers of Satan. It was sanc-tification that he needed, and because he wanted it more than anything else, he had no trouble in obtaining it. No one needs to seek long for it, if he wants it like this brother did. You will find usually that all headily, steady, steadfast Christians do graces that keeps them well and ina healthy condition. Many, on the contrary, lament abound in this grace. This iisncoinueits: ftihl: their leanness, when if they cause they could often trace it from a lack in this grace. A lack on this line often hinders our prayers, even when. we are not aware of it. If we lived in the sunshine of God where he could always talk to onr souls, we would always know just when and where and how much to give. He does not leave us in the dark on this line. we are continually begging God to give but do we ever consider we have a duty to do on this lined The promise is, " Give and it shall be given to you, good meas-ure pressed down, shaken together, and running over." See, it is not— It shall be given to you, then, you give, no; but the reverse—" give and it shall be given to you." Look what was said of Bro. Cor-nelius : " A devout man, which gave much alms to the people and prayed. to God al. way." Two parallel compliments, so to say. We see he was a praying and ' a giv-ing man, and one counted just like the ether, for finally the angel said, " Thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God." We see he was not only prayed up, but he had not robbed Gud in tithes and offerings. The prayers and offerings balanced and God regarded it so, when he heard his prayer. Some people are many years back in giving and the prayers on their hearts may have to be delayed many years long-er till they have paid up in tithes and of-ferings. May God help us all to see that all our dents are paid on this line. Mal. l : S, 12. BY CLAUDINE HEALD. 44 CET your affections on things above, not on things on the earth." Col. 3: 2. This is a direct command to those who follow Jesus in this world; but the heart of man naturally seeks after the things of this worla; therefore there must be a change wrought in the heart by the mighty power of God. Oh, the many, many that want to follow Christ, and at the same time keep their hearts set on the wealth, fashions, etc. of this life. One translation says, " Think of things on high, not ot things on the earth." Not meaning that we should never have a thought of anything pertaining to this earth; for that would be impossible, as we are yet mortal and are in the world, yet not of the world; but that our desires, aims, motives, etc. in life should be for the upbuilding of the inner man, instead of just seeking to gratify our fleshly desires. We look around us and see a busy, anx-ious, hustling, crowd, fast passing to eternity; and where are their minds or affections? Ah, just listen for a few mo-ments to their conversation, or talk with them a short time, and it is very soon proven to you that their minds are wholly taken with the things of this life, and their souls in gross darkness. If you talk with them about their lands, houses, prospects for the future, etc., they read-ily converse on that line. " From the abundance of the heart the mouth speak-eth." How true, " Where our treasures are, there will our hearts be also." Look for a few moments around us at the young people of our land, and what is seen and heard? Sad, sad! They like-wise are carried away with the frivolities of this world, and their conversation is just a gigly mass of words that amount to nothing. They must have their clothes made in the latest fashions; and their talk is on this, or about the pleasures they had at such a party, dance, opera, church(?) social; and, worst of all, trying to attract the ati ention of the opposite sex. Oh, where are their affections? Surely not on things above. Such are just fulfilling the lusts ot the flesh, and God says, they that do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. God wants, and has, a young people who have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus, who have their minds on him. There are many unhappy marriages in the land, all caused by the affections not controlled by the power of God. As the branch eon not bear fruit of it self, except it abide in the vine; no more ean ye. except ye abide in me." Now, the fruit- bearing branches are those that obey the Word. They forsake the world and the things of the world. They have no fellow- P with the - unfruitful works of darkness. They do not receive the grace of God in vain. I am speaking of justified persons. Praise God! They do not go to fairs, shows, and church frolics; they do not go into those ungodly secret chambers. They do Lot vote to license the saloon- keeper to sell strong drink; they do not drink any strong drinks, nor smoke nor chew tobacco; neither do they drink tea nor coffee; they do not conform to this world, they do not wear gold nor jewelry of any kind. The sisters do not wear dead birds nor plume nor paper flowers, nor any other unneces sary trimmings on their hats, nor do they and while they are imploring God to bless them, they sing, " There is a gate that stands ajar,. that opens free for all." But you come to their gate and the porter says, " You must pay a dime, or you can not get in." Then the preacher takes for his text John 10 : 9, " I am the door : by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pas-ture." But at this fence the porter stays and tells you if you want to go in and out you must give $ 1.00, and buy a ticket to show to the porter that you want to go in and out. Now I am not talking at ran-dom, nor from hear- say. I was there my-self and lniow this to be true. These are the fruit- bearers of sect holiness. " They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace when there is no peace." Jer. 8: 11. A neighbor of mine was steward of- asect that cormnuned every Lord's day. He would come home drunk every time he went to town. He came home one Satur-day evening so drunk he had to go to bed almost as soon as he got to his house, and on Sunday morning he was at his post and blessed the bread and wine. Well did one of the prophets say, " Their tables are full of vomit." One of their members, asked me what kind of religion I supposed they had. He said they go to Sunday- school and communion; they rub clothing and will not speak together. Well, I just said, That must be the devil's Lind. So they must be the devil's fruit- bearing branch-es. The AI B.' s at a certain time had what they called a high- kicker social. They stretched a curtain across the meeting-house. and the men were on the dark side of the curtain and the women on the light. The women would do the kicking and the men were to watch for the highest kicker, and she got the prize. Now if the devil had any shame about him, such abomina-ble doings would make him blush. Oh, what an awful day is coming upon these poor deluded souls. They are doing these abominable things under a cloak of religion. I think the devil has to enlarge his cloak, they can not hide the cloven foot. Oh, what fruit these branches are bearing! They can go to fairs, festivals, concerts, shows, grab- bags, ring- kicks, donkey so-cials, and sometimes to a dance. About a year ago I was called to the bed of my dy-ing brother in the flesh. I staid with him seven weeks; and in this time one of the seven churches in that town had one of these frolics. One of the leaders was tell-ing what a time they had and how mad they got at each other. For supper a couple had to pay 50c., for the supper and dance. $ 1.00. The supper was in the meet-ing- house and the dance in the hall. It seems some of these sect preachers are getting ashamed of their ungodly do-ings. Now they are giving the young peo-ple what they call sinless socials. An M. E. had a protracted meeting in a little town, and succeeded in getting quite a few to join. After he closed the meeting he in-vited the young people to come to his house and bring their violins and their suppers, and they could have a good time. After they had gathered in they sang a few hymns and the preacher knelt in prayer, invoking God's blessing upon their com-ing together. After prayer he gave them liberty to spend the evening in any way to have a good time. After supper, the preacher said this was a sinless social. He gave them another invitation, and said, ` Any time you want another sinless social, come to my house.' It does seem that the devil is getting ashamed of some of the abominable- doings, so he is getting them ish pins just, because it is the tide of the world they do not want tucks, ruffles or lace trimmings on their children. Thank God, they have no desire for such things. Now these are the fruit- bearing branches. Now we will see what the ( 1,, •- sr of these fruit- bearing branches is : " Having there-fore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filminess of the flesh and spirit, perfecting toliness in the fear of God." 2 Cor. 7: 1. These branch-es were made holy from their committed sins when they became branches, or when they entered in the door, which is Christ. Paul says, " I beseech you therefore. breth-ren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, accept-able unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world : but be ye transformed by the re-newing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and per-feet will of God." Rom. 12: 1, 2. " If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; even the spirit of truth; whom the world can not receive." John 14: 15- 17. We must be fruit- bearing branches before we can receive " another" Comfort-er, by which we are sanctified. The world ( sinners) can not receive him because they see him not, neither know him. " But ye know him, for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." Praise God for an ever-lasting Comforter; one that will abide with the fruit- bearing branches forever and ever! Now all these fruit- bearing branch-es will work in the light of the gospel and if they hear a voice, saying, " Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her Iilagues," they will obey. " Be ye not wi-lily yoked together with tmbelievers: for what fellowship bath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what commun-ion bath light with darkness? . and what agreement bath the temple of God with` • Ils?" Praise God ! it is not a sect god, ut a God that will dwell in them and walk them. " I will be their God, and they tall be my people. Wherefore come out nom among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." 011, thank God for the glorious light of the gospel, and for the fruit- bearing branches. They do not give heed to seducing spir-its and doctrines of devils. They will not wept, doctrines of devils, such as milieu-nialism, spiritualism, Christian science, sectism, or any other ism. They will have no part nor lot in the ungodly, abominable doings that are carried on in these so- called churches. They visit the sick, feed the hungry, and clothe the poor; they dress plain, neat, and clean; they are kind and affectionate one to another, and do as they wish to be done by. Praise God, these are the fruit- bearing branches of the true vine. Now we will take up the other side, and see what kind of fruit their branches bear. We will show what these sect holiness camp- meetings do. They build high fences around their camp- ground, and they have a gate you can not get in unless you pay a dime. The preacher says, " Let us praise God, my friends, as we sing this glorious old gospel hymn, " Salvation's free for you and me.' " But another voice falls from the breeze, " 10c. admission, if you please." s It is the gate: keeper this time. And after _ they have sung Salvation's free, then they get down and thank God for full and free - salvation, and call on him to bless them; under another garb to hide their ungodli-ness. " His watchmen are blind : they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they can not bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shep-herds that can not understand : they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter. Isa. 56: 10, 11. " The way of peace they know not." Isa. 59 : 8. " Woe be unto the pastors that de-stroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord." Jer. 23 : 1. " Behold, they shall be as stubble the fire shall burn them they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall' not be a coal to warm at, nor a fire to sit before it." Isa. 47: 14. " Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make in-tercession to me : for I will not hear thee." Jer. 7: 16. " He said also unto me, turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abomina-tions that they do." Ezek, 8: 13. 0 my Lord, what fruit- bearing branches these are! " If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch;" he is entirely cut off from the true vine. Now we will see some of the greater abominations. We will see what the apos-tle says about these abominable fruit- bear-ing, branches. " This know also, that in the - last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, Un-holy, without natural affection, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady. high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God having a form of godliness. but denying the power there-of : from such turn away." 2 Tim. 3: 1- 5. Thank God. some have turned away and have escaped the plagues that have come upon Babylon. " Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron." " And for this cause God shall send them strong. delusion. that they should believe a lie; that they all might be damned who be-lieve not the truth. but had pleasure in unrighteousness." Oh, how many ministers have been call-ed to preach the gospel, but to- day they are preaching doctrines of devils; they are deceived and are deceiving many. Truly, sectism is in an awful condition to- day. They are spewed out and God will not smell in their assemblies. He will not hear a prayer that is offered for them. Truly the revelator foresaw what sectism would come to when he heard the angel cry " mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon [ sectism] the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. . And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my peo-ple, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." Oh, what abomination these fruit- bearing branches must be in the sight of God, and yet they are ruling the whole world and deceiving souls by the millions. 0 ye ministers of the gospel that are standing as it were on the sea, you should blow the trump of God cry aloud, and spare not fear neither man nor devils. Truly, this world is ready for the great judgment to come at any time. Therefore SCATTERING SEEDS OF KINDNESS. 13Y GRACE E. KRIEBEL. Do we know that we are building, For eternal joys, while here, A rich temple that's unspotted from this world of sin and care? Are we scattering seeds of kindness Everywhere along our way? Has the darkness of the tempest Changed to one bright joyous day? Arc we joyful in temptations When by Satan we are tried? Have we found that in the secret Of Ood's presence we may hide? When the storms beat all around us, And the tempest seems so high, Then ' tis that our loving Savior To his arms would have us fly. We will setter light and sunshine O'er this world while yet we may, And be faithful in temptation. Bear the trials of the day. If we but live true, devoted, To his liivssetl holy Word, We will reap what we are sowing, In that brighter. future world. It means much to be a soul winner for Christ. Not only is it having a knowledge of the Word and a gift of prophecy ( preaching), but it is laboring with a bur-den upon our hearts for lost and deceived soul. s. We must have the love that Jesus had when he said, " Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Again, God the Father, speaking of Christ our example, in Isa. 42: 1- 4, says, " Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth. I have put my Spirit upon him; he shall bring forth judg-ment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench : he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be dis-couraged, till he have set judgment in the earth; and the isles shall wait for his law." We must show sinners that we love them, and what we do for them, we do because we love them. We may quote Scripture and leap and shout in the pulpit, in our zeal; but without that undercurrent of love for souls flowing through our hearts, it will avail nothing. Listen to the words of the inspired Paul: " Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity [ love] , I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal." 1 Cor. 13: 1. Please read the rest of the Chapter. " And they that be wise [ teach-ers, margin] shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever." Dan. 12: 3. A winner of souls must be a wise teach-er. Hear what Paul says in his letter to the Corinthian brethren. " And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; to them that are without law, as without law, ( being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak. I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some." 1 Cor. 9: 20- 22. Paul was a successful evangelist. He stud-ied to know how to approach men in their different conditions. We do not find him feeding strong meat to babes in Christ, but the sincere milk of the Word. 1 Cor. 3: 2. I have known ministers to come into a neighborhood where the Word had not been taught before in its fulness; and in their sermons, set forth not only the milk, but all of the strong meat of the Word; and, by adding a little seasoning of their own, make it so strong that the people would throw up the whole of it, and close the doors against the truth, and build up a strong spirit of prejudice that time alone will destroy. In Paul's second letter to Timothy he exhorts him to study to show himself " approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Tim. 2: 15. We would not think a workman skil-ful that would attempt to put the roof up-on a building before the foundation was laid. While it means much to get souls saved, it also means very much to keep them en-couraged. Right here, brethren, is where a mistake is made. Some who we ) mow have an unmistakable call to the ministry as an evangelist only obey the call when the duties of their farms or other secular duties do not claim them so strongly, there-by making the call of God a secondary matter. Perhaps in the interval they take the oversight of some local assembly when they have not been called to this branch of the work of the Lord; and the result is that the church suffers loss. " And he [ Christ] gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists and some, pastors and teachers." Eph. 4: 11. If the clear Lord has given you to the church as an evangelist, you will not please God nor be a success, unless you abide in your call-ing. Some will say, for an excuse, It seems that the Lord has no one to shepherd the flock " Mat is that to thee?" You obey the Lord in your gift, and get out of the way of the little ones, and the Lord will supply4he need. We do not read of Tim-otl*. orOritus locating in any certain place. Tiinothy was to do the work of an evan-gelist, and Titus was left in Crete to set inaorder OA things wanting, and was to - go'to other cities and ordain elders. James, the overseer of the church at Jerusalem, abode in his calling until the day of his death, history tells us. Brethren, let us know where we are placed in the body, and be content to abide in our calling. Do not try to place yourself in the body ( church). " But now hath God set the members ev-ery one of them in the body as it hath pleased him." 1 Cor. 12: 18. The Spirit of Christ. BY J. T. GIBBINS. 44M OW if any man have not the Spirit 1. N of Christ, he is none of his." Rom. 8: 9. What must we do to have the Spirit of Christ? Answer, Obey. " Behold to obey is better than sacrifice, and to harken than the fat of rams." 1 Sam. 15: 22. " Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and he more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil." Eccl. 5: 1. " Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not fashioning your-selves according to the former lusts in your ignorance : but as he which has called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. 1 Pet. I: 13- 15. Let us look at some of the commands of Jesus to the apostles that will witness to the world that we have the Spirit of Christ. " Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in ' him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof : but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever." 1 John 2: 15- 17. " Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friend-ship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." Jas. 4: 3, 4. " Be not conformed." Rom. 12: 2. What is it to be a friend to the world? let the Word answer. " I will therefore that men pray ever y where, lifting holy hands, without wrath and doubting. In like man-ner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array." 1 Tim. 2: 8, 9. " In like manner, the women, also, in be-coming attire, with modesty and soberness of mind, not decorating themselves with wreaths, or gold, or pearls, or expensive clothing." Emphatic Diaglott. " Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorn-ing of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price." 1 Pet. 3: 3, 4. " Whose decoration, let it not be that of external one, of braiding the hair, and putting on of gold chains, or wearing of apparel but decorate the hidden man of the heart with what is incorruptible,- a meek and quiet spirit, which is very pre-cious in the sight of God." Emphatic Dia-glott. Read Isa. 3: 16- 25. The Word says, " Be not conformed." To disobey the above scriptures is conformity, and not the Spirit of Christ. Would the Holy Spirit have ' recorded the above if it had not been the will of God for us to obey? When God speaks is he trifling? Dare we conform when God says. " Be not conformed"? When we put en gold, gay or expensive clothing it is for no other purpose, only to be seen of men, and to receive their ap-plauses. Mat. 6: 5. This is not the Spirit of Christ. Jesus' test of discipleship is, - If a man love me, he will keep my words." John 14: 23. You say, " I can do more good for the cause not to be so radical." Dare you conform for that reason when God says, " Be not con-formed"? You answer, " God has not condemned me yet." Dare you conform for that reason? It is evident that you are not living close enough to God to be condemned by his Word. Jesus says. " And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off." Why? " It is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched." Mark 9: 43- 45. - When we go on from day to day and disobey these few plain teachings, have we the Spirit of Christ? Are we abiding in his doctrine, when the Word says, " Who-soever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God"? 2 John 9. God's eternal truth draws the line of eternal judgment upon us, and we must measure to it ( John 12: 48), if we expect to abide in the day of his comin g. " Ev-ery sin that a man doeth is without the body." 1 Cor. 6: 18. We can not remain in the body of Christ and sin ( John 15: 2) for Jesus is pure, and if we abide in him our fruit will be pure, and will stand to be measured by his Word. Praise the Lord! Some Shall Fall. BY WM. WALKER FITZWATER. 44 ND some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge. and to make them white, even to the time of the end." Dan. 11: 35. No doubt there have been many of the saints in this evening light reformation severely tried, and perhaps some have doubted whether or not this was God's ref-ormation, all on account of some of the ministers of understandin g falling. True, there are some whom God has used in the past that he can not use now; like Saul ()- old, while they were little in their own sight, God could use them: but after a while they became exalted and proud. " Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Prov. 16: 18. " Whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." Mat. 23: 12. If those preachers had kept low and humbl y. there would have been a chance for them to be exalted, and they would not have had to exalt themselves, but God would have lift-ed them up in due time. The apostle says, " Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility : for God re-sisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore un-der the mighty hand. of God, that lie may exalt you in due time." 1 Pet. 5: 5, 6. Any proud person, much less a proud preacher, can not be used of God at all, be-cause they hold themselves up to the people as being some great one, instead of hold-ing up Christ as a perfect Savior. So, it need not shake the faith of any if some preacher of understanding of this reformation falls; because the text says, " Some of understanding shall fall to try them." Indeed, it will try them, whether or not they are converted to the preacher or to the truth. Of course, if people are converted to the preacher, and he falls, they are liable to fall too; but if a person is converted • to the truth, as it is in this evening light reformation, and holds to it with an unwavering faith, they will never fall; " for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall." Sad, indeed, it is to read some works of former preachers, and see what great understanding of the Word God had given - them, then look at them now. It makes our hearts swell within us. But, to look at it on the other hand, it is only a fulfilment of the prophecy in our text. Some of understanding shall fall to try them. If the devil could get all the saints to take their eyes off from Christ and place them on some fallen preacher whom they once esteemed highly for his work's sake, it would he as grand a thing as he would want to destroy their spirituality. Dear saints, " Be sober, be vigilant; be-cause your adversary the devil, as a roar-ing lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. Whom resist steadfast in the faith." .1 Pet. 5: 8, 9. God's truth is here to stay. This - reformation is of God; and even if all the preachers of under-standing at the present tu' ne were to get lifted up with pride, and fall, God's truth will never fall. A brother said for three years he lived above the world, and would not have stooped down to pick up its choicest gems, until at length a neighbor told him that eighty acres could be bought. As soon . as his mind began to plan for it, he lost that blessed nearness to God, and has never regained it. Could you, brother or sister, see the earth melting with fervent heat, would you consider your savings worth anything? Or if this week was your last week on this sphere, what would you do with the Lord's money you have? " Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?" was the question Saul asked the Savior, and Jesus told him, " It shall be told thee what thou must do." " To one Jesus said, " Sell all that thou last, and distribute unto the poor." It is said of the early church in Acts 2: 44, " And all that believed where together, and had all things common; and sold their pos-sessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need." We notice their experience by reading the rest of the chapter. If it should come to that in this evening dispensation, how many are ready for the sacrifice? The apostolic standard must be preached and lived, and then the signs will follow; and it will be said of some as was said of Stephen, Philip, and Barnabas: " And Stephen, full of faith and power did great wonders and miracles among the people." " Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the mira-e. les and signs which were done." Reflections on John I: 1- 10. uv G. ' W. CAREY. 1. THE WORD OF LIFE 16 GIVEN TO FALLEN HUMANITY. " That which was from the hoginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with OW: eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life." Ver. 1. This Word of life was Who was in the beginning. In the beginning was the Word. and the \ Vold was with ( led, and the Word was ( b d. The : Ante was in the beginning with ( W. John 1: 1, 2. '' And the Word was wade flesh, aml dwelt z000ng us, Land we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Fa 11C1', full of graa" and truth." john 1: 14. The Word was God, altieh designates it Jehovah, the supreme ruler with all power, who alone is worthy lo receive " glory and honor and power." And, this Word was made flesh. Here is humanity and divinity beautifully blended toaether. The joy of the whole earth, and the wonder of heaven. First, we have humanit y without sin, pattern; a model or spots to mar 2. John could. speak with authority because of actual experience; and so may every child of God who steps into the cleansing stream and lets the cleansing virtues pass through their souls, and have the life of Christ within. For we can not but speak the things which we have seen and heard. Ver. 3. 3. SALVATION BRINGS TO Tla- F, SOUL PEACE, aovE, AND JOY. ." And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full." Ver. 4. In regeneration, the peace and love of God fills the soul, and holy joy in-variably accompanies the pardoning love; but this joy is not in its fulness until th. e soul is sanctified. " If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth." Ver. 6. Fellowship exists only with the saved souls, and can be received from the Father as that soul Walks in the light. And, if we continue to walk in_ the light, then we have fellowship one with another. Ver. 7. And while we have this fellowship, the blood of Jesus will cleanse us from ail sin. Dear ones, - are you walking up to all the light you have? Then you may press on for the cleansing from all sin. The carnal mind is a dangerous element to exist in the heart and must be extri-cated, rooted out, and taken away,. or it will give you trouble. It is a lion in a cage, chained down, and overpowered; but it is liable to break those chains and come forth when least expected. The blood of Jesus has power to make this cleansing complete. In justification, or regeneration by faith, the stains of committed sins are removed, or blotted out and remembered no more forever. The new life has been produced by the Spirit of God, and the new life is manifested in loving the things God loves, and hating the things that God hates. In sanctification by faith through the blood the work is now made deeper; the blood now goes behind the action, and reaches the_ root of bitterness, the cause of all evil, and cleanses this depraved nature away. Praise God! This work leaves the soul like its Maker; like the Word and flesh which were blended together for the rescue of fallen humanity. The soul's de-liverance from the fallen nature makes the body a temple fitted for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit; yes, a fitted place for the holy trinity, where Christ is enthroned a lovely king, a complete conqueror over every foe. Under the gentle, mild sway of this divine sovereign, the soul has perfect peace, fulness of joy, and tender con-sciousness of every imagination and every high thing that exalteth itself against Cod, being brought down and every thought brought into captivity to the Lord Jesus Christ. Brother, are you living this holy life? Is this Reformation a Sect? Holy Ghost, meant to be a perfect Chris-tian, and none the less to- day. Such was the established church. Now, to depart from the doctrine and practises of it, is seetism. To depart from one sect and go into another sect, is of no use. Sectism is made up of all dissensions from the first heresy that appeared after Jesus had built his church until now. They are many. Rome, which is indeed the mother of all sects, is called " The mother of harlots." Most all the modern sects acknowledge the Roman Catholic church to be the mother church. She is not, however, the mother church, but the mother sect. She is the greatest dissension from the true church that Jesus built, that is known, and the farthest from its doctrine and practises. Neither the Catholic church nor any of the daughters that have been born of her are the church Jesus built. The whole is only a mass of confusion, and dissension from the church of God. The whole is only an apostate religion founded not up-on the Rock, Christ, not upon the foun-dation that he laid, but upon their own peculiar and perverse opinions, which they have invented. Let me say that to depart from their ungodly doctrines and prac-tises, and accept and obey the Bible, does not make a sect. A sect is a party of men who depart from an established church; not from a sect to the established church. We are sometimes called the " disciples of D. S. Warner," " Warnerites," etc. Though we follow him in faith and prac-tise ( which we would by no means deny), yet this does not make a sect. Because we follow him does not any more make us Warnerites, than were those Corinthians, Ephesians, etc., Paulites because they fol-lowed him. Paul said, " Be ye followers of me as also I am of Christ." All who follow Christ, we will follow; and all who do not follow him, we will not follow. We do not marvel that this reformation is called a sect : God's church was called a sect at the beginning, but such could not be proved; and though it be called a sect now, it can not be proved. D. S. Warner did not build a sect. He did not organize anything, or something, and give it a name, and then take members into it himself, and call it a church. He preached that God had a church and that he took the members into it himself. He preached that men must obey all the Word of God to get to heaven, thus showing by the Scriptures the true standard of Bible holiness, and what constituted true Chris-tianity. There were many who were saved through his instrumentality; and to- day many souls are rejoicing in a full and free gospel, and obeying all of God's Word. So, we have not dissented from the estab-lished church and formed a sect, nor have we dissented from one sect and formed another; but we have dissented from the multitude of sects; and now stand complete in Christ. Halleluiah to God I We have got back to the original established " church of the first born," " whose names are writ-ten in heaven." Some of us were of the sects of Meth-odism and some of us were of the sects of the Baptists; others, Winebrennerians; and others, United Brethren in Christ, etc. But, now we are one in Christ Jesus. We have no church of our o wn. We are saved from saying, " my church." We do not ask any one to " join" our church. The disciples of Christ were called Christians ( Acts 11: 26), and were called saints. 1 Cor. 1: 2; Rom. 1: 7. As a body, or whole, they were called the church of God. Acts 20 2S; 1 Cor. 1 2, and these names may be Scripturally applied to true believers at this time. No true saint is ashamed of any of the above titles, though they may sound reproachful to many. FRESH OIL. " But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil." Psa. 92: 10. How neces-sary it is for the child of God to get this fresh anointing. It is like the manna.; it must be gathered fresh every day. Some dear souls sadly neglect this important matter. How dry the prayer, testimony, or sermon, where this fresh anointing is lacking. Eloquent words and fair speech-es can not supply this lack. All fall upon the ear like dead words. The preacher may say many truthful things, and with forci-ble logic; the scripture may be rightly ap-plied, and it may be real clear in doctrine but it does not speak to the heart. We may testify straight and radical and defi-nite, and thank God for sanctification, and that we are out of Babylon, but all will sound dry and lifeless without the fresh anointing. Like a machine without oil, which grates upon the ear; so the tes-timony, prayer, or sermon without the fresh anointing, grates upon the soul. 0 beloved saints, let us constantly keep in. line with God through perfect obedience; then let us not be satisfied with the single fact, that we are out in the faith which was once delivered unto the saints; but let us daily and continually keep anoint-ed with fresh oil, for every duty . and ser-vice. It is good, to know that we were sanctified twenty, ten, or several years, or months ago, and that we can mark the time and place definitely; but that fact alone is not sufficient. It is good to know that the Holy Spirit has come into our hearts and filled us with his glorious pres-ence, distinctly and definitely in the past; but this fact alone does not serve unto us the sufficient strength for the immediate present day and hour. We must have the anointing with fresh oil, so that our strength will be like that of an unicorn. J. W. B. 1 Am the Lord that Healeth Thee. WHAT THE LORD DID FOR MY CHILDREN. I feel it would be to the glory of God to tell what the Lord has done for me in healing my little ones. A few weeks ago my little boy, aged eight years, had a very bad cold. He had fever, and coughed very hard. Some nights he would cough nearly all night. My husband wanted to get some medicine for him, but I told him he would be better in a few days. I trust-ed him in the hands of the Lord, and, praise the Lord I he got well. Our little boy, almost three, took sick the same way with a high fever, and a cough and was quite sick for a few days; and I kept trusting in God to heal him, and he did so. Pray for me; I am alone in this place. There are no saints around within a hun-dred miles that I know of. I wish some of God's true ministers would come to this place and preach the Word in its purity. The people need a waking up to see where they are going and what they are doing. Oh, it makes my heart ache to see the peo-ple so careless about their souls' salvation. My prayer is, that God will send some one to this place this summer. It seems to me that Nebraska has been sadly neglected in the gospel work. Please pray for my fam-ily that they may all be saved, and for me that I may be sanctified, and where the Lord wants me to be. I can not praise the dear Lord enough for his healing power. Some time ago my seven- year- old daughter showed unmistakable symptoms of diabetes, and continued to fail in health, notwithstand-ing all our earthly efforts to the contrary, until she was so poorly that we had to take her out of school. Then I sent to the Trumpet Office for an anointed handker-chief, which I applied in the name of the Lord, believing John 14: 12- 14; 15: 16; 16 : 23 and she immediately began to im-prove, and in a week's time, I believe, is healed. He also healed her of sore throat. He healed me several years ago of indi-gestion, etc. Praise his holy name ! He has taken all desire to sin out of my heart; and to any one who repents, and believes on his blessed promises, he will do the same for them. He has given me strength to resist the enemy. " But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them which believed on his name." John 1: 12. And again we read. " Behold what manner of love the Father hath be-stowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." 1 John 3: 1. The inspired writer had seen this Word with his eyes, and handled it with his hands, and had also experienced the real fact of it being the Word of life. Dissent means to disagree; to differ; to dif-fer from an established church in regard to doctrines, rites, or government. The fact that we differ from others in regard to doctrine, rites, or government, is not a proof that we are a sect. The meaning of sect is a denomination which dissents ( differs from an established church) in re-gard to doctrine, etc. We will examine this particular point briefly. Jesus said in Mat. 16: 18, " Upon this rock I will build my church." Paul said to the Ephesians, " And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cor-ner stone." Paul said to the Corinthians, " Other foundation can no man lay." Jesus built the only orthodox church. He laid the only true foundation for a Bible church. No other man could lay such a foundation. That church was built and fully established and set in order in the days of Christ and the apostles. The doctrine pertaining to that church— its rites and government— is found in the New Testament. No other was needed to make the members perfect. Jesus' own words, together with the prophecies con-cerning him, were sufficient for reproof, for instruction, etc. Nothing was necessary to be added. When. you are severely tested, try to help some one else out of trouble. When Jesus was sorely tried, he prayed earnestly for himself and for others who were in need of help. Just sit down and let the devil have his way about everything, and you are sure to have a hard time of it. It is sometimes thought that the Chris-tian's way is a very rough road, beset with many trials, temptations and troubles, and denied the pleasures of life. The one who starts out to take Christ with one hand and the world with the other is sure to have a hard road, with but lit-tle spiritual enjoyment; as the Word says, We can not serve God and mammon. The way of the true Christian may lead through some difficult places with oppo-sitions and persecutions, but there are spiritual enjoyments which far exceed the pleasure of this world, of which the world knows nothing. There are joys and victories and pleasures which are lasting and which give an assurance of eternal happiness in the end. MORNING TALKS. Be sure that you have a talk with the Lord at the beginning of each day. Do not forget to thank him for his protection during the night, for what he has done for you in the past and is doing at the present time, for supplying your needs, and then ask his guidance during the day. Open up such close commtinion or conversation with him insomuch that you can as a friend tell him concerning all your affairs, and he will give you the necessary grace, strength and wisdom. ACQUAINT YOUBSPLP wITH HIM. Let your communion with the Lord be so frequent that he will not appear like a stranger to you, nor you feel that you are a stranger in his presence. Learn to trust him not only for the . keeping of your soul, but for your daily needs, and also for the healing of your body. In case of sickness or accident, it does not take long to send an effective message to the Lord if you are well acquainted with him. In case some unexpected circumstance takes place dur-ing the day that is likely to cause dis-aster, in a moment a message can be sent up to the Lord for his help, that he might overrule everything to his glory and for your good. PITFALLS OP SATAN. In these last days the enemy of souls has made many pitfalls or snares in order to entrap unsuspecting people— almost every device imaginable in order to counterfeit or lead souls from the true way. False churches are organized to represent the true church of God; false agents of every note and character, even secret societies try to put a moral and religious label in front of their doors of iniquity. Another scheme of the devil is labeled Christian science, in order to catch those who are religiously inclined; and another one is labeled Spiritualism in order to catch those who have a desire to be spiritual, but who have not learned all the enemy's de-vices on this line. Spiritualism, Hypno-tism, and Christian science all belong to the same family, and originated and are carried on by the powers of darkness. MAGNETIC PEA T ENG In whatever way God has set forth a plan to manifest his power, the devil has tried to counterfeit it, and if possible pushes the counterfeit in ahead of the genuine, so as to disgust the people or defeat the plan of the Lord. In the time of Moses andAaron., when they threw down the rod and it be-came a serpent, the magicians did likewise, counterfeited the very act and perform-ance to thus baffle the men of God, and would have completely deceived those who witnessed the same, had it not been that God caused the serpent, which Moses ' and Aaron caused to be made to swallow up the other serpents. In the days of Paul, when he was doing some wonderful works on the line of healing the sick and the power of God was being manifested through him, a damsel was going about doing many wonderful things among the people, causing her masters to receive great gain. She followed Paul for a few days, finally he turned to her and commanded the evil spirit to come out of her, that spirit of divination, and from that very moment she had lost her power. This caused her keepers to become greatly en-raged against Paul and those who were teaching the gospel way. In these days when the Word of God is being preached in. all its purity, with the signs following and the sick being healed, the devil is sendng forth his mes-sengers, doing his work under various names and titles. In places where people have become disgusted with spiritualism and mesmerism and have seen the evil effect of such, he has given it a more mod-ernized name, Hypnotism, setting it forth as a wonderful means of helping people in their life work, healing of diseases, etc. As that is being exposed as of the devil and people who have taken up with it are being bound by the powers of Satan un-til they are unable to break his fetters to get saved without having the evil spirits cast out, and many becoming insane through the effects of it, again its name has been changed to that of magnetic healing, Weltmerism, etc. They even have schools to instruct people on these lines, charging from $ 5.00 to $ 50.00 for a course of lessons. The leaders do not deny this power being hypnotism, do not deny that it is the same power as used by the magicians and astrologers of old, of which the Word of God says, That they that do such things have their part in the lake of fire. Those who tamper with such things do so at the risk of their souls, and can only find deliverance through Jesus Christ and forsaking the same. ALMOST CAMP- MEETING TIME. Already we can feel the power of the Holy Spirit moving in behalf of the com-ing camp- meeting, and the overshadow. ing blessings of the Lord are already drop-ping down. People are coming in from a distance to get saved and healed, and de-livered from the powers of Satan, and God is abundantly manifesting his power. We realize the effects of the prayers of the saints scattered abroad in behalf of the meeting and are expecting a glorious time in the name of the Lard. By the time of the first day of the meeting we expect to meet a host of our readers and saints of God and many others who are seeking the way, in a general convocation to worship the Lord. If you have not already ar-ranged to come, make arrangements at once, sacrifice a few days' work and come in the name of the Lord and you will surely be repaid by way of spiritual help and divine grace. If you are richly pros-pering in your soul there will be many here seeking help from the Lord for the salvation of their souls, healing of their bodies and deliverance from the powers of Satan. We would say- to those who can not come, and desire special prayer for themselves or for some friend, write us a letter in few words, briefly stating the case and the same will be remembered in a di-vine healing service at about 2 o'clock P. A dear old brother had been in Babylon so long that he was nearly starved to death. When he heard the truth he obeyed, and came out rejoicing. When he heard sanctification taught, he at once accepted the teaching, and began seeking and found it to the joy of his heart. In his testi-mony, he said, " I was starving to death for some good food, and yet I knew I was a child of God, but knew noth-ing about this blessed sanctification. It is just what I wanted, and I wanted it bad. Thank God, now my soul is satisfied." This is only another proof that a jus-tified soul will not fight sanctification. This brother was walking in all the light he had, and knew that he needed something more to be done in his heart. It was sanc-tification that he needed, and because he wanted it more than anything else, he had no trouble in obtaining it. No one needs to seek long for it, if he wants it like this brother did. You will find usually that all headily, steady, steadfast Christians do graces that keeps them well and ina healthy condition. Many, on the contrary, lament abound in this grace. This iisncoinueits: ftihl: their leanness, when if they cause they could often trace it from a lack in this grace. A lack on this line often hinders our prayers, even when. we are not aware of it. If we lived in the sunshine of God where he could always talk to onr souls, we would always know just when and where and how much to give. He does not leave us in the dark on this line. we are continually begging God to give but do we ever consider we have a duty to do on this lined The promise is, " Give and it shall be given to you, good meas-ure pressed down, shaken together, and running over." See, it is not— It shall be given to you, then, you give, no; but the reverse—" give and it shall be given to you." Look what was said of Bro. Cor-nelius : " A devout man, which gave much alms to the people and prayed. to God al. way." Two parallel compliments, so to say. We see he was a praying and ' a giv-ing man, and one counted just like the ether, for finally the angel said, " Thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God." We see he was not only prayed up, but he had not robbed Gud in tithes and offerings. The prayers and offerings balanced and God regarded it so, when he heard his prayer. Some people are many years back in giving and the prayers on their hearts may have to be delayed many years long-er till they have paid up in tithes and of-ferings. May God help us all to see that all our dents are paid on this line. Mal. l : S, 12. This is a direct command to those who follow Jesus in this world; but the heart of man naturally seeks after the things of this worla; therefore there must be a change wrought in the heart by the mighty power of God. Oh, the many, many that want to follow Christ, and at the same time keep their hearts set on the wealth, fashions, etc. of this life. One translation says, " Think of things on high, not ot things on the earth." Not meaning that we should never have a thought of anything pertaining to this earth; for that would be impossible, as we are yet mortal and are in the world, yet not of the world; but that our desires, aims, motives, etc. in life should be for the upbuilding of the inner man, instead of just seeking to gratify our fleshly desires. We look around us and see a busy, anx-ious, hustling, crowd, fast passing to eternity; and where are their minds or affections? Ah, just listen for a few mo-ments to their conversation, or talk with them a short time, and it is very soon proven to you that their minds are wholly taken with the things of this life, and their souls in gross darkness. If you talk with them about their lands, houses, prospects for the future, etc., they read-ily converse on that line. " From the abundance of the heart the mouth speak-eth." How true, " Where our treasures are, there will our hearts be also." Look for a few moments around us at the young people of our land, and what is seen and heard? Sad, sad! They like-wise are carried away with the frivolities of this world, and their conversation is just a gigly mass of words that amount to nothing. They must have their clothes made in the latest fashions; and their talk is on this, or about the pleasures they had at such a party, dance, opera, church(?) social; and, worst of all, trying to attract the ati ention of the opposite sex. Oh, where are their affections? Surely not on things above. Such are just fulfilling the lusts ot the flesh, and God says, they that do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. God wants, and has, a young people who have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus, who have their minds on him. There are many unhappy marriages in the land, all caused by the affections not controlled by the power of God.
