Description
Summary:Samples of wastewater from the Grand Forks Energy Research Center's slagging, fixed-bed gasifier were analyzed for pH, TSS, COD, ammonia, phenol, sulfide, sulfate, total sulfur, cyanide, and thiocyanate. Analytical methods were those developed at Carnegie--Mellon University for analysis of coal gasification wastewaters. Recovery studies using the method of known additions were performed on ammonia, phenol, sulfide, sulfate, total sulfur, cyanide, and thiocyanate analyses. Recovery studies showed that interferences were eliminated and that the analytical procedures appear suitable for examination of GFERC gasifier wastewaters; however, the thiocyanate determination required a modificationn to the usual procedure and this should be tested on additional samples.
