En octobre 2009, un « opéra national komi » a été représenté à Syktyvkar : Kuratov, sur la vie et l’œuvre du poète Ivan Kuratov. Pour la première fois, la langue komie est mise au service d’un opéra sur un sujet komi. Par cette communication, je propose d’expliquer le cheminement qui a conduit à cette création. Après avoir rappelé les grandes lignes de l’histoire, en pays komi, des arts dramatiques en général, et de l’opéra en particulier, je présente les étapes successives de l’élaboration de l’opéra Kuratov : le livret composé par Al’bert Vaneev en 1984, l’adaptation réalisée par le compositeur Serge Noskov en 2008, et la mise en scène d’Ija Bobrakova en 2009. Cette analyse fait ressortir des observations sur le bilinguisme en pays komi et sur le statut de la langue nationale aujourd’hui. In October 2009, a “Komi national opera” named Kuratov, about the life and works of poet Ivan Kuratov, was performed in Syktyvkar. For the first time, the Komi language is dedicated to an opera based on a Komi subject. With this paper, I intend to describe the road that led to this première. The first part of the paper gives an overview of the history of dramatic arts in Komi land. Three main periods are to be distinguished: the Golden Age initiated during the Civil War and continued in the 1920s (until the mid-30s and the eradication of a generation of artists); the Soviet era (WWII, Stalinism, construction of a “Soviet nation”, foundation of Soviet theatrical institutions); and finally the possibilities given by the new status of the Komi state within a sovereign Russian Federation (foundation of a Komi national theatre, new situation of the language in the multi-national society).The second part focuses on the opera. The first musical dramas and operatic attempts on Komi subjects are produced, or just designed, in the 1940s. The Soviet era builds new institutions and produces a new repertoire of operas and ballets where Komi motives contribute to the building of a “Soviet nation”.
