A recipient of the Lawrence Fiction Prize, and awards from the NEA and the Kentucky Foundation for Women, she founded and continues to edit The Louisville Review and Fleur-de-lis Press. She is a University of Louisville Distinguished Teaching Professor and also teaches in the master of fine arts in writing program of Vermont College.
