Summary: | Submitted to the U.S. National Committee for the IGY, National Academy of Sciences, in partial fulfillment of IGY Project No, 4.10 - NSF Grant No. Y/4.10/285 by Richard P. Goldthwait. During the 1958-1959 USNC-IGY Antarctic program observations of snow accumulation, ice motion, and firn temperatures were continued at the main bases and during the summer field season new areas were traversed by mobile glaciological-seismic parties. The 1958-59 Airborne Traverse operated out of Byrd Station during December 1958, with a Navy R4D-5 aircraft. The main studies were seismology and glaciology, supplemented by gravity meter data and surveys with an airborne magnetometer. This report is a summary of station positions, dates, elevations and air temperatures, and contains a map of the traverse. National Science Foundation Grant No. Y/4.10/285. 1959-1959 IGY Airborne Traverse, by Hugo A.C.Neuberg.
