Ice Surface Movement in Marie Byrd Land

This report represents the fourth part of a continuing study on the surface movement of that part of the Antarctic ice sheet which lies between Byrd Station and Mt. Chapman. The work detailed here encompasses the re-triangulation, by photogrammetric methods, of the 140 markers placed in situ in 1962...

Chapman. The work detailed here encompasses the re-triangulation, by photogrammetric methods, of the 140 markers placed in situ in 1962 and triangulated in 1963. The photogrammetric work, involving a total of 620 models, was completed over the full length of the strip and allows deductions to be made concerning the direction and magnitude of surface ice movement. Unfortunately, the high number of models triangulated seriously affects the quality of the instrumental work. A detailed discussion of these degrading effects, methods of compensation, and their effect on the derived values is presented.
