Description
Summary:Built in 1879 at Abbotts Bridge (Milan), Ohio, "William Edwards" was a wooden freight propeller. She listed out of Sandusky, Ohio in 1890 and out of Cleveland in early 1900, owned by W. C. Richardson. (Additional records indicate she was sold Canadian (134528) in 1916 and foundered off Cape Pine, Newfoundland on May 18, 1917 while carrying a cargo of coal.) "Golden Age" was a wooden schooner built in 1883 at Abbotts Bridge (Milan), Ohio by Valentine Fries (W. C. Richardson & Co., Mgrs.), the same builder of "William Edwards." In those days it was the custom to use a steam propeller to tow a schooner part or all of the trip. Being owned by the same parties, they usually teamed together along the routes. "Golden Age" later became the barge "Pringle" of Detroit until 1924. She was sunk as part of a breakwater near Put-In-Bay, Ohio.
