Summary: | Finely laminated, fine-grained sediments, probably deposited in a small lake, exposed in a cut bank. The rhythmic layering represents seasonal inputs of coarser detritus (lighter colored layers) against a background of continual deposition of finer detritus (darker colored layers). In the center of the image is a zone of convolute lamination. The distorted layers are confined to a particular stratigraphic sequence, indicating that they are a product of soft-sediment deformation. These deposits are overlain by coarse gravel of a younger fluvial deposit. See images 403 and 404.
