During the last few years a growing scientific interest in antarctic oceanography has been manifested by the performance of the longterm lnternational Southern Ocean Studies (ISOS). ln this note we presenl a short review of currenl problems in physical oceanography of the Southern Ocean. The paper deals with recent observations from the Drake Passage related to the antarctic circumpolar current system, and the formation of bottom and intermediate waler, as well as wilh studies of the polar frontal zone. |
