Artist Biography: Walt LeClair of Altamont, Albany County, New York is a major artist in the field of bird carving. Having been a carver for more than 22 years, Walt has shared his skill with many and has continued to enhance his art by training with known artists such as Helen Gibson, a well-known Brasstown carver from North Carolina and Ernie Mulmatt. Walt’s work has consistently won numerous awards over the years at the New York State Fair. Walt has been a regular instructor at the Adirondack Folk School in Lake Luzerne, Warren County, New York, and here at the Library his work was on display in the Folklife Gallery exhibition, Inspiring Hands, Heart & Mind: The Arts & Crafts of the Adirondack Folk School in 2016 Other/Unknown Material snowy owl New York Heritage Digital Collections
