Arktiĉka ruta je pomorski plovni put kojim se brodovi koriste u prolasku kroz arktiĉko podruĉje. Sluţi kao poveznica izmeĊu Tihog i Atlantskog oceana. Od velike je vaţnosti jer spaja dijelove Azije i Sjeverne Amerike koji su inaĉe nedostupni kopnenom i zraĉnom prometu. Iako se na nju trenutno gleda kao na sezonsku sporednu rutu, ova ruta moţda predstavlja budućnost pomorstva, jer uvelike skraćuje put izmeĊu mjesta na sjevernijim širinama Azije i Sj. Amerike. To se moţda ne ĉini vaţno sada, jer je prohodnost uvjetovana ledom, ali se predviĊa da će daljnje otapanje leda omogućiti da ruta bude konstantno plovna. Budući da je u brodarstvu najvaţnije vrijeme, jer vrijeme je novac, onda nije ĉudo da bi arktiĉka ruta mogla postati jedna od najprometnijih u svijetu, ukoliko se prognoze ostvare. Što je veća ušteda vremena, i što su troškovi manji, toliko je profit veći. A kraći put znaĉi manje vremena provedenog u plovidbi i posljediĉno manje troškove. Samo ovo je dovoljan razlog da se na arktiĉku rutu poĉne obraćati paţnja. The Arctic Route is a maritime navigable way used by ships to pass through the Arctic. It serves as a link between Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean. It is of great importance because it connects parts of Asia and North America that are otherwise inaccessible to land and air traffic. Although it is currently viewed as a seasonal route, this route may represent the future of maritime affairs, as it greatly shortens the route between places at the northernmost reaches of Asia and N. America. This may not seem important now, because the passage navigability depends on the ice conditions, but it is anticipated that further ice melting will allow the route to be constantly navigable. Since the most important thing in shipping is time, because time is money, then it is no wonder that the Arctic Route could become one of the busiest shipping routes in the world if the forecasts are to come.
