Antarktička cirkumpolarna struja (ACC) najvažnija je struja Južnog oceana i jedina struja koja u potpunosti teče oko svijeta. ACC, dok okružuje antarktički kontinent, teče prema istoku kroz južne dijelove Atlantskog, Indijskog i Tihog oceana. ACC igra važnu ulogu u globalnoj raspodjeli topline, hranjivih sastojaka, soli, ugljika, kao i u razmjeni plinova između atmosfere i oceana i stoga je izvršila snažan utjecaj na Zemljinu klimu. ACC sudjeluje u termohalinskoj cirkulaciji miješajući vodu među glavnim oceanskim bazenima i pružajući put za gustu vodu (Sjevernoatlantska duboka voda) da se vrati na površinu. The Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) is the most important current in the Southern Ocean and the only current that flows completely around the world. The ACC, as it surrounds the Antarctic continent, flows eastward through the southern parts of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. ACC plays an important role in the global distribution of heat, nutrients, salt, carbon, as well as in the exchange of gases between the atmosphere and the ocean and has therefore made a strong impact on the Earth’s climate. The ACC participates in thermohaline circulation by mixing water among major ocean basins and providing a path for dense water (North Atlantic Deep Water) to return to the surface.
