Predmet ovog završnog rada su manjinski jezici u Švedskoj. Prvenstveno se obrađuju manjinski jezici koji u Švedskoj imaju službeni status, a to su: samski (jezik starosjedilačkog naroda Sámi), meänkieli (varijanta finskog koja se govori u dolini Tornedalen), finski, romski i jidiš. Budući da se u Švedskoj govori i dvjestotinjak drugih jezika, ovaj rad spominje i švedski znakovni jezik te jezike imigranata. Kako bi se uopće moglo pisati o manjinskim jezicima, ali i jezicima općenito, bilo je potrebno odrediti što se smatra jezikom, a što dijalektom. To je posebno važno jer u Švedskoj postoji nekoliko regionalnih govora koji se toliko razlikuju od standardnog švedskog da bi se mogli smatrati zasebnim jezicima, no zbog kulturoloških, povijesnih i političkih razloga oni se ipak smatraju varijantama švedskog jezika. The topic of this bachelor thesis are minority languages in Sweden. The primary subject are minority languages which have an official status in Sweden: Sámi (the language of the indigenous Sámi people), meänkieli (a variety of Finnish spoken in the Tornedalen Valley), Finnish, Romani, and Yiddish. Since about two hundred other languages are spoken in Sweden, this thesis also mentions the Swedish Sign Language as well as new immigrant languages. In order to even be able to write about minority languages, and languages in general, it was necessary to define what is considered a language and what is considered a dialect. This is especially important because several regional speeches are spoken in Sweden which are so different from standard Swedish that they could be considered as own languages, but because of cultural, historical, and political reasons they are still considered to be varieties of the Swedish language.
