A series of experiments have been conducted for observing the dynamic behavior of gas hydrate formation at temperatures from 275 K to 285 K and that of hydrate decomposition by depressurization. The experimental runs include seven different combinations : water + methane, seawater + methane, seawater + sand + methane, water + HEPES-Na (an inhibitor) + methane, water + tert-butanol (a promoter) + methane, water + carbon dioxide, and seawater + carbon dioxide. In addition to the visual observation of the phase transition through transparent windows, the temperature responses at different positions, pressure in the high-pressure cell, and gas flow rate varying with time provide experimental evidences to get more insight into the mechanism of gas hydrate formation at specific temperature and pressure, and that of the hydrates dissociation during the depressurization process.
