Interaction between level ice and a conical structure: centrifuge simulations

This paper describes the experimental set-up and procedures used to model the interaction between level ice, grown from freshwater and saline solutions, and a conical structure in the C-CORE geotechnical centrifuge. A series of ten interactions were produced for which the thickness, temperature and...

A series of ten interactions were produced for which the thickness, temperature and salinity of the ice, the testing conditions (g-level, displacement rate) and the kinetic response of the model structure were recorded. The horizontal and vertical loads applied to the structure during these interactions are compared with the loads predicted by various theoretical and semi-empirical algorithms.
