It was, therefore, a special pleasure to welcome the American guests present and to note t h a t they included some of those most expert in permafrost knowledge in North America. La séance a été inaugurée par Monsieur Legget, qui a souhaité la bienvenue aux personnes présentes au nom de Monsieur C. L. Merrill et en son nom propre. Il a expliqué à l'assemblée que la séance avait pour objet de fournir une étude générale des travaux de recherche ayant été réalisés sur le pergélisol, non seulement au Canada mais également en Alaska. Il nous a donc fait particulièrement plaisir d'accueillir nos invités américains qui étaient présents, et il est à noter que ceux-ci comptaient des experts parmi les plus chevronnés en Amérique du Nord dans le domaine des connaissances liées au pergélisol.
