description february 13, 1981 the concordian page 7 Vengeful Cobbers beat Oles Number one Cobber gymnast Karen Hegre practices her beam routine in practice this week. The team has been steadily im-proving their scores as the season proqresses.[Scott Sternhagen the tournament he increased his win streak to eleven. Other place winners were Doug Soderman, Murdick McLeod and Kilbo (4th) and Wallin and Bungum (5th). Grinaker had this to say about the conference meet, "We hope to keep our momentum going. Augsburg looks to be the favorite with St. Thomas close behind. The rest of us will be battling for third place." Some of the individuals who have good shots at placing in the conference with their season records in parentheses are: Bungum (14-6), Wallin (12-9), Soderman (15-9), Kilbp (11-5) and Molly McLeod (14-4). Dan Olsgaard and Murdick McLeod will also be in the running. The team will be without the services of Larry Feldt, Wade Christensen and John Butenhoff who are out of action with in-juries. WRESTLE continued from page 6. were Murdick McLeod, a 17-3 winner, and DuWayne Kilbo who won 15-3. Kilbo is just getting back into shape after being out with an injury but appeared to be at full strength against Bethel. Another dual was held this one a forfeit-filled match with St. Mary's which the Cobbers won by 44-5. Dan Olsgaard wrestled well to win 11-0 arid Murdick McLeod continued his improvement by pil-ing up a 9-0 decision. McLeod has now won five out of his last eight matches. On Saturday the grapplers com-peted in the Luther college tour-nament. The big news was the awesome display of Molly McLeod. The Cobber heavyweight won first place and received the pinner's trophy for most pins. By going undefeated in OFTEN IMITATED NEVER DUPLICATED 1629 University J10 Center Are. 232-8908 2364550 Greg Strand, Chad Sheets and the rest of the Cobbers had something to prove to the St. Olaf Oles. In January the Oles had gotten their first win of the year against the Cobs and Strand had been limited to a single basket. Sheets, on the other hand, had been battling a shooting slump. The Oles are now believers. With Sheets scoring 22 and Strand 15, the Cobbers blew their Eellow Norwegians out of the gym by a score of 80-57. "We were able to get St. Olaf in-to a full-court running game which we hadn't done the first time. We were the aggressors and our fast break and pressure defense were both excellent. Our bench strength, with Chad, Mark Streed and Paul Dahlgren scoring nearly half the points, was very MPIRC film to be shown i "Controlling Interests" will be shown at 8 p.m. March 5 in Grose 201. The Cobbers were never behind in the game, much of the credit going to only two first half tur-novers. A span at the end of half and the first 4 minutes of the se-cond found the Cobs outscoring the Oles 37-13 to break the game wide open. In the other half of the "southern swing" St. Marys edged the Cobbers by 74-68. St. Marys was on top throughout, by margins of three to five points. The Redmen were led by forward Mike Horvath's 29 points and 8 rebounds. Leading the Cobs were Jim Knutson and Andy Askegaard with 16 apiece. Askegaard and Claude Oppegard both added eight rebounds. Tomorrow night the St. Johns Johnnies come to town with revenge on their minds. The Johnnies are led by senior center John Eisenshenk and guard Dundee Kelbel. Eidsness had this to say about the game, "they really like to get the ball inside but we cannot totally collapse because of Kelbel's shooting from the out-side. We'd like to show them it was no fluke the first time." For the year four men are averaging in double figures led by Sheets with a 13.3 average. Others are Askegaard at 12.9, Oppegard at 10.1 and Strand at 10.6 per game. Askegaard leads with a 6.6 re-bound average while Sheets has dished out the most assists with 54. Oppegard and Streed are leading with 53 percent field goal accuracy.
