Description
Summary:Jakob Schock family from daughter, Helena Weißhaar Geschrieben d 27 9. 47 Lieber Onkel u Tante: Seid herzlich gegrüßt u im Geiste geküßt von uns Gottlob und Helena Weißhaar u Kinder alle. Written the 27th Sept. 1947 Dear Uncle and Aunt: Sincere greetings and, in spirit, kisses from us, Gottlob and Helena Weißhaar and children. We are well, thank God, and hope that our writing will reach you in good health. Dear Aunt and Uncle, we received your letter a few days ago and were very happy that you are alive and well, but truely sorry that you had to say that you must stop writing or let up. God bless you and strengthen you, and think—"I will not be fearful and anxious, but look upward and trust Him completely, for therein rests my life." Now I want to share with you about our life. The (failure-destitution ?) is hard, but what can we do. The time had to come for mankind is stubborn and will not listen to the warning. The parched and withered harvest that we have here will not bring us anything good. There is already serious hunger and it will effect many people if God doesn't provide ways and means. Last year each person was allowed 200 lbs. of potatoes for the year. This year we can get only 100 lbs. and it will be impossible to get through the year when there is no lard, no egg or anything nourishing for energy. It is already bad, the majority are undernourished. Our three youngest children are medica11y declared undernourished so they can hardly go to school this winter. We will keep our faith in God—"He who trusts in God is well founded." Sincere thanks again for your gifts of love, dear Uncle and Aunt. God repay you—and also thanks for the address of the Staats Anzeiger. We found our Weißhaar relatives and have gotten some assistance in our need. Our plight appears to worsen, but thank God, we got some help from you this week. The children were especially overjoyed! — 10 lbs. of flour, 3 lbs. lard, a piece of soap and three pairs of shoes, which was the biggest joy in our situa-tion! Many times it gets dark in front of our eyes, but always when the need is the greatest then God is the nearest!—and that's His way. Dear Aunt, I want to thank you again for the nice Foto—how nice it is when children become adults and still have their parents. I had to lose mine so early—father was even taken alive! So we greet you again and please greet Uncle Gottfried and Aunt too, and all -all my cousins, Until we hear again. 9 Transcripts; 21.5 x 28 cm; Title supplied by staff.
