"The picture by Curtis Strand is of the warming house built last fall at the site of the new skating rink. The new warming house was one of the several projects which have been successfully carried thru by the Recreation Board. The new house is 20x40, is oil heated, has running water and modern plumbing. The new building is as much improvement on the tiny, dilapidated shack which served the old rink, as a modern home is over an eskimo's igloo. There is a coke machine in the place and a candy concession. The place was so comfortable that many kids used it for a social center even when not skating. The building was built late last fall and was ready for use about mid-November. Roy Peterson served as caretaker and supervisor of the rink. The board plans next year to enlarge the ice area so that hockey players will have 'ground' of their own." - caption with image published in The Pierce County Tribune, April 3, 1952, p. 1.
