SPECIORUM IMPERFECTUM. In addition to the two foregoing orders there are a large number of species which are analagous to the individuals of those orders but which are lacking in certain evolutionary characters. On account of their uncertain position they have been grouped as imperfects. They are to the two higher orders what the fungi imperfecti are to the higher forms of fungi. They have very recently come up from lower forms by means of DeVriesian mutations. Much experimental data must yet be obtained before their afffinities can be clearly established. It is doubtful if they were ever cultivated even by the ancients. COMMON NAME SCIENTIFIC NAME C. I. Gunness Scandia originum Visual appendages ethereal blue, somewhat globose, three to five centimeters broad. Pedal extremities constricted. Stockholm, Norway, to Haggart, N. D. R. M. Dolve Scandia fjordium Very short, several meters in diameter, asymmetric. Itinerant appendages exceedingly abbreviated, flattened on the bottom. Rocky inlets on the coast of Denmark. O. W. Dynes Regulum incubatorius Cranial appendage eight to sixteen centimeters long, slightly reflexed, densely black. An excellent stimulant when applied to chickens. Hunter, N. D., to Cornell, N. Y. S. D. Chambers Cranium crimsonii Hirsute appendage brilliant red turning to vermilion, very much reflexed. An excellent adornment for class-rooms. Columbus, Ohio, to Moorhead and Fargo. R. E. Remington Cranium aberratum Short, symmetrical. showing considerable activity. Nodular glume (hat) conspicuous by its continuous presence. Valuable for certain chemical reactions. H. Chisholm Cranium triangularis Tall, irregular, much stunted as though insufficiently nourished. Habitat, oil waste and coal bins. G. L. Tibert Cranium vacuum Six to fourteen meters high, very irregular, grizzily, becoming recurved. Very hardy, in smoke stacks and under old boards. Mrs. S. B. Ash Hirsutum longitude Hirsute appendage seventeen to twenty centimeters long, erect, closely bunched. Probably native of Iceland. Abbie Simmons Hirsutum argentum Cranial appendage brilliantly silver white, twenty to thirty centimeters long. Habitat, principally around Normal schools and Technical institutions. Margaret McCarty Hirsutum aurum Hirsute appendage beautiful golden, thirty to forty centimeters long, somewhat recurved. Valuable as the principal decoration for dormitories. Edythe Grasse Hirsutum Zongissimus Some biologists claim that this species shows great affinity to Heterus bacteriensis. The resemblances are so characteristic that no concrete description of the species is necessary here. Ethel McVeety Hirsutum nigrum Visual appendages distinctly dark brown, globose, becoming. An excellent decoration for libraries. Jaredine Thompson Laevigatus visage Two meters or less high, smooth, symmetrical, erect, somewhat powdered. 121 Other/Unknown Material Iceland North Dakota State University (NDSU): Digital Horizons Norway
