A daughter, Mrs. Andrew Moen, lives at Niclsville and is 86 years old. She taught school in the early nineties. Mr. and Mrs. Lars R. Haugen Lars Haugen was born in Eggedal, Norway, October 26, 1875. He came to the United States with his parents, Reier and Beret, when he was five years old. They arrived in New York, May 20, 1880. In 1907 he married Belinda Stenerson, who was bom December 3, 1887. Their children are: Bertha, Ida, Herman, Ludvig, Norman, Gilmen, Helen, Sophie, Corrine, Lloyd and Lars. Mr. Haugen died November 9, 1940 and Mrs. Haugen, in 1948. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Hanson Andrew M. Hanson was born in Denmark, October 1, 1860. On October 6, 1894 he married Golla Margrethe Hanson, who was born at Trondhjem, Norway, May 17, 1868. The Hansons moved to a farm at Primrose Township in March 1895. Mr. Hanson died October 13, 1907 and Mrs. Hanson died July 2, 1944. Mrs. Petra Hogfoss Mrs. Hogfoss was born March 18, 1851, in Nes, Aardalen, Norway. She came to Portland in 1887 with her husband, Gudbrand, and four sons. Mr. Hogfoss died in 1889. After her husband's death, she worked hard to keep her family together. Although totally blind several years, she did her own housework. She died March 19, 1933. The sons were: Nels, Christian, Andrew, and John. Mr. and Mrs. O. K. Haugen Ole Knudson Haugen was born in Norway in 1816, and his wife, Mari, in 1813. They were married in 1840. They emigrated to America in 1869, but did not settle in the Portland area before 1873. Their seven children were born in Norway, and with one exception, all came to America and settled in this vicinity. They were: Marit, Knute, Anne, Ole, Ragnhild, Kari, and Olea. Mr. Haugen died in 1891 and his wife in 1907. Mr. and Mrs. Nils N. Hovde Nils Hovde was born in Valdres, Norway, in 1830. He married Jorgine Tan- gen, February 28, 1839. Nils came to Portland about 1879, and his wife and son, Nils, came in April, 1880. They farmed until they moved to Portland. To this union seven children were born: Erick, Johanne, Nekoline, Nils, Nekolai, Ingvald, Ingeborg. Nils Hovde died in 1907, and his wife in 1919. Mr. and Mrs. Ingvald Hanson Ingvald Hanson was born at Gimsoy, Lofoten, Norway, on June 7, 1863. In 1886 he came to Portland. In 1889 he bought the farm in Primrose Township where he lived until his death in 1951. He married Marthea Syverson (born in Aust Marka, Kongavinger, Norway, August 27, 1867) November 17, 1891 at Hillsboro.
