Description
Summary:Pembina Community Club, Inc. PEMBINA. NORTH DAKOTA TO THE READER: Pembina, North Dakota, our state's oldest settlement, is a quiet, peaceful town that had its beginning in 1797 when John Adams was serving as the second president of the United States. Being situated at the confluence of two rivers, the Red and the Pembina, it was a natural site for early traders and settlers. The Northwest Fur Company built a post here in 1797 and the Hudson Bay Company followed in 1803 From its very beginning Pembina's location has been an attractive inducement to business and industry of all types. The past few years have seen a rebirth of the early activity that made Pembina one of the areas most progressive cities. in I960 one of the state's largest television stations, KCND-Channel 12, began broadcasting here with a signal that not only serves northern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota, but Manitoba, Canada, as well In 1962 the Greyhound Corporation and Motor Coach Industries, Limited of Winnipeg, Manitoba, began construction of a giant plant that will be assembling over 200 buses a year by 1964 for use all over the country And this is only the beginning! A fish filleting factory and a brush and broom factory are good possibilities for the future. A progressive school system, supervised recreational activities for youngsters, and a rapidly expanding business district make Pembina a place for people to plant their roots deep and grow with one of North Dakota's most forward looking cities. We're proud of our city, and we invite you to share this pride as you read this fine publication. Boyd J.
