Helen (Mrs. Olson), born August 1911, housewife and operator of a residential rental faciltiy; Harold Berger, born September 26, 1913, is a salesman; Edna (Mrs. Reveland) born October 9, 1915. She is the residential director of Lutheran Sunday schools in N.D. Reverend A.H. Berger attended Concordia College for a while and graduated from Red Wing Seminary. He and Mrs. Berger came to Fort Ransom in 1898 when he became pastor of Waldheim, Preston, Spring Creek, and Skandia congregations. This proved to be too strenuous for one pastor and in 1903 two alternatives were confronted, either divide the parish, or hire an assistant pastor. The parish was divided and Rev. Berger was called to serve Stiklastad, Waldheim and Preston congregations at a salary of $200ayear. For many years he served this area, driving with a team of horses, summer and winter. He passed away in 1930 at the age of sixty-five. His wife lived to be ninety eight. Rev. Berger was forthright in speech and action and his former parishioners seem to remember him long after others are forgotten. Hans Berntson settled in section 18, in 1896. He came from Norway, as did his wife, Lena Horsager, in 1890. Hans was born October 4, 1867, and Lena, January 18, 1879. They were married in Lisbon, Hans was a farmer. They had eight children: Justin, born August 24, a farm laborer; Gunhild (Mrs. Nypen) born August 28, 1900; Alfred, born June 3, 1902; Arthur, born September 27, 1905; Louis, born January 3, 1904, farmer; Ethel (Mrs. Hanson) born December 7, 1907; Ida (Mrs. Henrikson) born November 16, 1909, teacher and housewife; Tillie (Mrs. Haarsager) born August 30, 1912, teacher and housewife. There are 14 grandchildren. John Bjornhei, born September 22, 1885 in Norway, came to Fort Ransom in 1907. He built his home in the hillside west of the Sheyenne and said that it reminded him of his home in Norway. He was a painter by trade and in his later years also sold nursery stock. John also constructed models of different types of freight vessels in Norway, and painted a scene of his birthplace. His wife, Louisa Jacobson, came from LaMoure County. She was born September 15, 1898. They were married in Fort Ransom in 1917. Louisa Jacobson's parents were John and Soffie Jacobson, who came from Norway in 1890 and settled in Black Loam Township in LaMoure County. They had eight children, five living. John and Louisa had three children: Alma (Mrs. Gallagher) of Pingree was born June 6,1920. They have seven childen. Melba (Mrs. Art Guttormson) born January 19, 1922. They have eleven children. Stanley was born March 2, 1931 and had one child that died in infancy. Christian Brandt came to Fort Ransom Township in 1881 and settled in section 24. He did not remain in the community very long. Kenneth Brock settled in section 12 of Fort Ransom in 1962. Kenneth was born September 27,1928, his wife, Mary Joseph, on April 12, 1931. They were married in Page, N.D. in 1949. Their children are: Angela (Mrs. Allen Guttormson) born July 8, 1951, an L.P.N, and coordinator at the Lisbon Nursing Home. She has two children, Melanie, born July 8, 1951 and James, born June 6, 1973; Roxanne (Mrs. Dennis Rienke) born October 10, 1954. Dennis was born March 29, 1942. She is an accounting clerk and Dennis, a farm laborer; Glenda (Mrs. Kenneth Truesdell) was born Sept. 15, 1956, and is a student at Valley City State College; Kenneth, born August 26, 1952, works at the Dahlgren Elevator, Lisbon; Tracy, born May 10, 1960 is a student at Lisbon High School. Irenus Carlblom came to this township from Cokato, Minnesota and settled in section 14. He was born April 5, 1854 and his wife, Josephine Johnson, in 1855. They were married at Cokato in 1874. Irenus was a farmer. There were ten children: Albert, born May 5, 1876, a farmer; John, born in 1877, a laborer; Emma (Mrs. Highness) born in 1879; Selma, born in 1881, a housekeeper; Oscar, born in 1883, a businessman; Anna (Mrs. Ronning) born in 1885; George, born in 1887, a farmer; Herman, born in 1890, a carpenter; Edward, born in 1892, a laborer; and Alfred, born in 1895, a carpenter. The eldest son, Albert, married Sirene Slapgaard. Their daughter, Annie J., married Theodore C. Grothe on June 6, 1929. Their children are: Kenneth, who married Charleen Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Anderson. They have four children: Dale, Carol, Linda and Ellen. Annie's other children are Ardell Grothe, Stanford Grothe, and Alan Grothe. Alan married Sandra Laugen. They have two children, Jennifer and Rebecca. Albert's son, Henry O., married Ethel Henrikson. They had a daughter, Shirley (Mrs. Jans Kruger) of Valley City who has two daughters, Susan and Sherri; Henry's second wife was Lucietta Holweg. They had a son, Leland, who is a chemist with Pittsburg Glass and Paint Industries. Irenus' son, George, farmed in section 16. His son, Donald, now farms here. Another son, Clair, married Joan Murray of Lancaster, Minn, in 1952. They were married in Hallock, Minn. There arefive children: Sherry Lea (Mrs. Jerry Johnson) born April 30, 1954, has two children, Michael Lowell and Cindy Lynette; Debbie Lou (Mrs. Thoreson) was born August 10, 1956, a secretary; Patty Jane, born February 16, 1960; Janice Lynn, born April 11, 1963, and William Wade, born February 12, 1965. Oscar Christianson came from Lake Mills, Iowa in 1906 and settled in section 31. He married Mathilde Anderson who was born in 1878 in Mo i Rana, Norway. Oscar was born July 17, 1879. Their children were: Ingrid Josephine (Mrs. Phillip Hoff) of Lisbon (see Hoff history), Ingrid was born October 30, 1906; Edward Bernard, born September 24, 1908; Arthur Elinis, born August 13, 1911; Mildred Oline, born July 19, 1913; Mable Lillian, born July 8, 191 5, and Ernest William, born March 19, 1917. Their mother, Mathilde died in March 1917. Oscar married Christine Grund. There were three children of this marriage: Elmer, born July 1, 38 Scanned with a Zeutschel Zeta book scanner at 300 dpi.
