Johnson Farm. who was for many years chief of police in North- wood. They had with them a herd of Norman horses. This year Hans and Mathia Christian- son Buraas and daughter Julia (Mrs. John Wickney), and son Edwin born here, came from Postville, Iowa, and homesteaded in NE17. His brother Edward Christianson Buraas homesteaded first in NW19 and later married Karina Nelsebakken (SE19). "Store" Gulbrand Anderson proved up SE21, and Martin and Eline Ostlie and children Johanne and Herman in SW10. Peter H. (NW34) and Andres Winden (SE27) came from Lake Mills, Iowa. Anders later married Birgit Opdahl and their children were Ingeborg, Inga, Emma, Anna, Andrena, Oscar, Gilaman, and John. In the same company was Ole Opdahl (SW24). Thorvald and Marie Ingebrefson (NW22) originally from Hadeland, Norway, came from Postville, Iowa, in 1878 with their children, Inga (Mrs. Ole Swenson), John, Gustava (Mrs. Stork Storkson), Maren, Alma, Turine (Mrs. Carl Swenson). Anna (Mrs. Carl Grandsberg), Hilda (Mrs. Fritz Nelson), Oscar and Dora (Mrs. Edwin Bilden) were born here. Lars T. Boe (SE35) was later connected with Sidney Lough in banking interests in Northwood. Coming directly from Hoi, Hallingdal were Ole and Birgit Anderson Pugerude (SE31) and their sons Christen Olson Pugerude (SW31), William Olson (NE31). Christen married Gunhild Dahl and their children were Ole, Gilbert, Simon, Katinka, Olve, and Olga. William married Guri Thorsgaard and their children were Ole, Amanda, Edwin, Beatha, Gilman, Clara, Gina, Clarence, and Luella. In 1879 Peter G. Hanson (SE14) came from Ringerike, Norway. Peter and Anne Marie's children were Henry, Dora (Mrs. Charles Orvik, Gina (Mrs. Harold Jenson), John, and Gilman. Peter Hanson was State Representative. In 1879 came Engebret O. and Aagot Thorsgaard (SW30) and children Guri (Mrs. William Olson), Ole Sunbreen, Guri (Mrs. Ole Skiple), Arne, Knudt (died 1883), and Ole. Born were Henry, Beatha, Knudt, and Agatha (Mrs. Got- fried Land). Engebret was an early trader and shipper of livestock, a trade which has been continued in the family until the present time. This year another group, originally from Hallingdal, left St. Peter, Minn., for this community. It included Thorsten E. and Guri Tufte (SW25) and daughter Sidsel. John, Erick, Julia, Engebret, Carl, Henry, Theodore, and Georgina (Mrs. Theodore H. Tufte) were born here. Torsten Tufte was State Representative and an early organizer of the Scandinavian Total Abstinence Society at his home in 1 885. Also in the group was Engebret Lien (NW25) who later married Guri Bry. Their children were Emil, Johannes, and Julia (Mrs. Olaf Skjoiten). Others were Thor and Jorand Sand and children, Hans, Sam, Henry and Ingvald. Another family accompanying was Tollef H. and Mari Naas (SE25) and children Julia and Henry. Other children, Margaret, Caroline, Selmer, Belle, and Alvin were born here. Their son Henry entered the ministry. In the group was Sven Huus family that homesteaded in Washington Township. A large family originally from Hurdalen, Norway, came here from Northwood, Iowa. They were Gulbrand Halvorson Nelsebakken (NE22) and wife Katrina and family, Bernt Gulbrandson (NE21), Halvor Halvorson (NE12) who later sold to Halvor Tufte, Ulrick, Christian (SW11) later married Mina Uldrickson, Karina (Mrs. Edvard Buraas), Mina (Mrs. Martin Halvorson), Ole Mathea (Mrs. Martin Buraas), Dorthe (Mrs. Andres Ostlie), Gulbrand, Anton, and Carl (born here).
