They sold their homestead and bought a farm in Center Township where they farmed until 1910, then they moved into McVille, N.D. They sold their farm to Leonard Hallin in 1943. In McVille they sold milk and cream for 35 years. Nels was custodian of the McVille Lutheran Church for over 24 years. Anna was a charter member of the McVille Lutheran Ladies Aid. She died in 1953 and Nels died in 1962. Eight children were born to them: Alice (Mrs. Fred Mack), Tacoma, Wash. She died in 1958; Emma (Mrs. Maynard Francis), Owatonna, Minn. Mr. Francis died in 1944 and Emma later married A. M. Wenner and are living in Owatonna, Minn., until his death in 1976; Ida (Mrs. George Schneck) lived at Ayr, N.D., for many years. George died in 1960 and Ida later married Albert Sankpill who died in 1971. She now lives at Tower City, N.D. Iver, who married Camilla Knudsen, lives in McVille. A baby, Marie, died in infancy while they were still on the farm; Dorothy married Goodwin Helgeland, rural McVille, N.D., who died in 1937, later Dorothy married Erick Saxberg of Cooperstown, N.D. Elmer, who married Inez Ensrude of Pekin, lives in McVille, N.D. Estelle (Mrs. A1 Brenman) lives near Crary, N.D. The Nels Pedersons had 13 grandchildren and 24 great­grandchildren. Oscar and Elsie Polis Elsie Sannes Polis was born in Hamlin Township March 28,1908. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Sannes. Oscar Polis was born in Nesheim Township on Oct. 23, 1906, to parents Mr. and Mrs. William Polis. They attended schools in the area and were married at Moorhead, Minn., Nov. 6,1928. Oscar was in the barber business for 43 years except for two and one half years that he spent in the Army during World War II. Mr. and Mrs. Polis were active in community affairs and also their church. He was president of the church council and financial secretary for many years. Elsie and Oscar Polis They lived through the depression years of the thirties as many others did. Oscar retired in 1969. They did some traveling and spent some winters in Arizona. They celebrated their golden wedding on Sept. 17,1978. Oscar passed away on Dec. 12, 1981. Mrs. Polis continues to live in her home at McVille. William and Emma Polis William C. Polis was born March 4, 1869, at Dodgeville, Wisconsin. He came to Field Township in 1882. November 4, 1892, he married Emma Helgeland who came with her parents and brothers to North Dakota and settled in Nesheim Township along the Sheyenne River. After their marriage they lived in Nesheim Township on what is known now as the Anton Rorvig farm. They retired from farming and moved to McVille in 1924 and in 1940 they moved to Pekin. Mrs. Polis died December 6, 1945, and Mr. Polis died September 3, 1947. They had eleven children: Ella Thompson (deceased); Anna Ryan, Devils Lakes, N.D.; Ida Johnson (deceased); Roy Polis, Pekin, N.D.; Edwin Polis (deceased); Mabel Schindele, Lakota, N.D.; Oscar Polis, McVille, N.D.; Cora Rutten, Lakota, N.D.; Thelma Nelson, Devils Lake, N.D.; Arthur Polis, Stacey, Minn.; Evelyn Nelson (deceased). William Polis Descendants William Polis and Emma Helgeland were blessed with twelve children: Ella, Matilda, Anna (Mrs. Willie Ryan), Ida (Mrs. Oscar Johnson), Roy, Edwin, Mable (Mrs. Schindele), Oscar, Cora (Mrs. Raymond Rutten), Thelma (Mrs. Fred Nelson), Arthur and Evelyn (Mrs. Norris Nelson). Cora Polis was born at rural McVille in 1908 and attended school in Nesheim Township and McVille area. She married Raymond Rutten of rural Devils Lake. They farmed for some time and later moved to Lakota, where he was a dealer for International Harvester Co. They have retired and spend their winters in Arizona. Arthur was born at rural McVille in 1912 and attended school in McVille and Nesheim Township. He married Sylvia Fakler of Beach, N.D. They have one daughter, Arietta In 1916 the Polis’ moved to Wildrose, ND. This was where their youngest daughter was born: Evelyn in 1919. The family moved back to Nesheim Township and she attended schools there. In 1924 the father retired and they moved into McVille. In 1940 they moved to Pekin. Evelyn married Norris Nelson June 24, 1953. They lived in Lakota for some time and two sons were born there. Later they moved to Larimore, N.D. Norlyn lives at home with his father. Evelyn died of effects of a car accident July 1, 1978. Terrance is at West Point, New York. Thelma was born November 1, 1910, at home south of McVille and attended rural schools in Nesheim Township and McVille. She went to work at Lakota in 1929 as cook and waitress at Craise Hotel and Roy’s Cafe. She married Fred Nelson June 24, 1931. Fred was born September 11, 1901, in rural McVille in Center Township where his folks lived their married life. Fred had three sisters: Mable (Mrs. Harold Anderson), McVille; Clara (Mrs. Ole Johnson), Lakota; Myrtle (deceased); and a brother, Neil. Fred came to Lakota in 1926. Thelma and Fred had four children: Wesley was born in 1934; died March 15, 1978. He had married Doris Tullakson and they had three children: Kim, Nancy and Steve. Wesley worked for Ottertail Company and they lived in Devils Lake, N.D. Muriel Ferris of Dallas, Texas, has four children: Randy, Jay, Sherrie and Tammy.
