Clifford Conrad was born Feb. 1, 1923, to Mr. and Mrs. Casper Foreng, Pekin and Orpha Selma was the Cheryl, Melodee, Cliff, Cynthia, and Orpha daughter of Thimor and Ida Brekken, Pekin, born Feb. 4, 1922. After farming for several years near Pekin, Clifford and Orpha and girls moved to McVille where they resided in the Gib Dahl residence (Billy Olson home) between January 1964 and September 1967, and Cliff was employed as manager of the Community Lanes until April 1966 when Cliff joined the firm of Lake Chevrolet of Devils Lake in sales. On July 1,1967, he became a sales representative of confections for Schwan Wholesale, a position he still holds. Orpha is employed at the Prairie View Elementary School in Devils Lake in the cafeteria. Cliff is well known in the McVille area for his musical prowess, as he appeared countless times with his bands and combos. In 1979 he published a song book entitled “Sing Along" with Cliff Foreng and his accordion and is still available. Cliff and Orpha are the parents of three girls: Cheryl (Mrs. Harold Brenden) lives at Rapid City, S.D., where Harold is principal of an elementary school and Cheryl is iployed by Bell Telephone. They have two sons, Eric _jd Travis; Cynthia (Mrs. Kenneth Lybeck) resides at Bismarck, N.D., where Kenneth is employed at Harker’s Meats, and Cynthia is employed by Basin Electric. They have a son, Rodney, and a daughter, Tanya; Melodee (Mrs. Terry Thompson) lives in Devils Lake, where Terry is employed with Continental Telephone, and she is with an insurance agency. Christian and Inger Fosse Born March 25, 1858, at Viksogn, Norway, Christian Fosse was 17 years old when he left his home and was one of 3,090 Norwegians who emigrated from Bergen on the Cunard Line. He first lived in Iowa but later moved to Hatton, N.D. He filed for citizenship in 1883 and got his final papers in 1890. Inger Mathea Tobiasdatter Bjertness left Norway with her family in 1883 and came to Hatton. She married Christian Fossee at Grand Forks on Oct. 2, 1889. They farmed in the Hatton area until 1896, when they settled on a farm in Pilot Mound Township in Griggs County, south of McVille, and they got a warranty deed to em] am their homestead claim in 1899. In 1900 they were awarded their paid up deed. They had a one room house with low upstairs, later adding a lean. In 1902 a new house was built. It had a small entry, a large room, pantry and bedroom downstairs, and one small bedroom, one real large room (to accommodate four beds), and a large hallway upstairs. Later a new barn was built. They were charter members and builders of the Norway Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. They were the parents of twelve children: Mina, Dina, Fred and Tina (Mrs. Nels Boostrom) were born at Hatton, Anna and Mary, born in the old house; Hilda, Theodore, Ida, Clarence and Clara, born in the new house. They farmed until 1937 when the moved to Kloten. Later they lived with their daughter, Mrs. Gilbert Hanson, in McVille. Mrs. Fosse died in 1943. In 1945 Christ moved to Michigan with his daughter, Mrs. Hanson. John Fretheim Family Born in Allamakee County, Iowa, Aug. 29. 1884, John Fretheim grew to manhood in Iowa and farmed in McKenzie County, N.D. for 17 years before moving to McVille in 1938 where he farmed until retiring in 1957 and moving into town. He married Elma Helgeland, daughter of Sarah and Anfin Helgeland, on Jan. 12, 1927. She worked as assistant cashier at the State Bank of McVille in 1913. Elma died in January 1956. On June 24,1962, John married Mrs. Gladys Nyberg. Gladys was the daughter of Albert and Christine Johnson, born April 10,1907. She was a McVille High School graduate and entered nurses training at the Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis and graduated as a R.N., working in Minneapolis for several years before returning to McViUe. She married Carl E. Nyberg in 1935 and he passed away in 1951. Gladys and John Fretheim were married scarcely a year before she died in March 1963. John Fretheim did not have any children and died at the age of 84 on Oct. 20,1968. They are interred at the Sheyenne Cemetery, rural Pekin. Gene and Alvina Germundson Mr. and Mrs. Gene Germundson were married Dec. 6, 1957, in New Rockford, N.D. Alvina is a native of Sheyenne, N.D. and Gene came from Hope, N.D. Except for 10 months spent in Michigan in 1960, they have resided in McVille since that time. Gene has been employed at the Famers Union Oil in McViUe and Michigan, Hustrand Construction at Lakota, Reiten Farm Supply, Nelson County Highway Department and Twete, Inc. Alvina had been a waitress at the Community Lanes and the Hotel Cafe and is currently employed as bookkeeper at the Nelson County Highway Dept. They are the parents of three sons: Curtis, married Nancy Schindele, Tolna, on Dec. 22,1979, and are living in Grand Forks where he is completing his four years with the Air Force; Craig has attended one year at MayvUle and will be employed with Stenslie Home Builders; Corey, student at McViUe School. Robert and Elizabeth Getz In the spring of 1949 two pharmacy graduates of the North Dakota Agricultural CoUege, Robert (Bob) Duane Getz, a Grand Forks native, brought his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Lewis Getz, a Bismarck native, and their new baby daughter, Linda Louise, to visit Betty’s maternal grandparents, Christ and Ida Menge, who lived in McVille.
