In fact, the first year of the town’s existence, Rev. Pippy was about, preaching Ingatherings in cafes and restaurants or even out in the open to train crews, etc., wherever and whenever the opportunity afforded itself. In the “Journal” dated June 21,1906, this item appeared: “Rev. William Pippy, pastor at McVille last summer, is again in the field and expects to do great work in enlarging the sympathy and devotional spirit of the new town. Although tne weather was not very promising last Sunday evening, quite a large number gathered in the bank building to listen to Rev. Pippy.” In July 1906 Mr. Pippy and Mr. Jonas C. Becker made a commitment to solicit subscriptions for a building, and they were reported being very successful, although there were no large donations, there had been no refusals. The work was interrupted by the illness of Mr. Pippy, but when his health was regained, they proceeded. When the Hamlin M.E. church was built earlier, the residents of this community contributed, and were promised help when it would be needed here, and Mr. Becker stated that members of the Hamlin M.E. church had been very generous. Unfortunately, in August 1906 Mr. Pippy was called to the Wyoming National Encampment, Mr. Murcheson, formerly the pastor at Hope, N.D., was expected to fill in during his absence. In October, at the annual conference of the M.E. Church of N.D. held at Valley City, the following assignment of ministers for these areas were announced: Aneta-A. Hayes; McVille and Tolna-A.J. Pittman. A church building committee was appointed in 1906-1907 composed of C.S. Houghtelin, G.B. Frost, Joseph Pearson, J.C. Becker, William Meader, G.T. Mark, and E.C. Olsgard, and on May 30, 1907, this notice for bids appeared in the local newspaper: “Notice is hereby given that sealed bids for the erection of a church building for the Methodist Episcopal Church at McVille will be received up to 2 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 1907. All materials and labor for the McVille Methodist Episcopal Church. (Photo courtesy of Iver Pederson. building above the foundation is to be furnished by the contractor. Plans and specifications may be seen at, and bids left with the State Bank of McVille. By order of the Committee. Dated May 7,1907.” By September that year, the building was enclosed. Just prior to that a Sunday school and ladies aid had been organized in April 1907. They had their Christmas exercises that previous December in the dining room of the McVille Restaurant. On Oct. 17,1907, the ladies aid served an oyster supper at the McVille Restaurant, and on Oct. 24, that year, Rev. W.J. Cooper was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Rev. Pittman who left to serve Tolly in the Minot District. The new church was erected on the east side of Main Street, on the corner lot across from the Community Hospital, now occupied by the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Flaagan. This lot was given them by the city fathers when the town was platted. The church was crowded to capacity in January 1908, when Rev.
