Schools Norway School No. 1 and 2 were organized in 1886. The first teachers were Dr. James Gilkey and Bessie Oakland. There was one teacher in each schoolhouse. In 1898, schools 3 and 4 were organized. The first through eighth grades were taught in these schools; wages were $40 to $50 a month for teachers. M - & P ~ VI* County Correspondence, 1897. Sheyenne Journalists COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE, 1897, BUE POST OFFICE The name of the newspaper or column was “Sheyenne Bitters” which seemed to fit the articles very well as it was more of a gossip type news. To get something on each other they would get themselves into quite hot water. Family Histories i.Xy-i fa ft Einar and Loretta Aamodt Einar and Loretta Aamodt Einar Aamodt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Aamodt, was born Jan. 5, 1916 at Hamar, N.D. He married Loretta Deehr, who was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Deehr. Loretta was born Feb. 1, 1920 at Tolna, N.D. They had one son, Donald, born April 2, 1944 at Seattle, Wash. They purchased the John Fretheim farm in Nesheim Township and moved there in 1957. Einar served on the Sheyenne Church Council and was a supervisor in Nesheim Township. Loretta taught school in Nesheim Township from 1957-1959. She also taught in Bergen Township and then in McVille from 1959-1976, when she retired from teaching. Donald attended High School in McVille. He served two years in the U.S. Army and spent part of that time in Ger­many. When he returned he farmed with his father. Donald was killed on June 21, 1971 in an automobile accident in Monterey, Calif. In 1976, Einar and Loretta bought a home in Mesa, Ariz. and spent the winter months there. Einar passed away March 11, 1979 at Mesa. Loretta continues to spend the summer months on the farm in North Dakota and the winters in Arizona. II4 il John and Emma Aamodt John and Emma Aamodt John Aamodt was born Dec. 9, 1894. His parents were Siver and Kjersti Aamodt. John married Emma Helgeland July 6,1935. Her parents were Lars and Hanna Helgeland. Emma was born June 10, 1897 and baptized at New Luther Valley on Aug. 10,1897 by Rev. H.S. Quanbeck. After their marriage they lived and farmed on the family farm in Nesheim Township. They were the parents of one daughter, Hannah (Mrs. Lee Quanbeck). Emma passed away July 6, 1936 and John passed away Aug. 9, 1950. Sever Aamodt History Sever Aamodt was born April 17,1853 in Tronheim, Nor­way. His wife, Kjerstie A. Krogstad, was born Oct. 28,1855, also in Trondheim, Norway. Her parents were Anders Krogstad and Eli (Gaustad) Krogstad. He was born in 1812 and she in 1810. They came to America May 1,1887 and lived their entire life in Nesheim Township, Nelson County, N.D. They lived about six miles southwest of McVille in the Sheyenne River Valley. Their first residence was a small log house built on the side of a hill. This later served as their summer shanty. In 1900 they built their two-story home north of the log house. All the lumber was hauled from Northwood, N.D. by horses and wagon. Sever would leave before the “crack of dawn” and not get home until after dark. He also brought groceries home at the same time.
