Robert and Clara Young Robert Young, son of William and Ella Young, was born in Ballygarvin, Northern Ireland May 7, 1922 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1924 with his parents and four brothers. They came to Chicago where his Dad had employment and in 1927 came to the Michigan area where they lived on a farm southwest of Michigan. While the house on the James McGifford farm was being refurbished, the family lived in the house in town which Robert and his family now own. His sister, Patricia and brothers, Allan and Dennis were born in Lakota. His brothers who came from Ireland were James and William living in Illinois, Frank in Idaho, and Tom, who died in May 1977. Robert attended the Williams Consolidated School and later farmed with his dad on the farm which his folks and bought about a mile from the McGifford farm. Robert and Clara lived on the McGifford farm about a year and a half, moving to his Dad’s farm in 1946 when his folks moved to Illinois where they lived for about 2 years before returning to N.D. Robert and Clara Olson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Even Olson of Brocket, N.D. were married at the Olson farm home Oct. 14,1944. Clara was born on the farm on April 12, 1924. Clara graduated from the Lakota High School and attended Mayville College. She taught school at the Melrose school near the Fred and Albert Orwick homes. She roomed at the Albert Orwick home. Some of her students were Don and Idean and Phyllis Orwick Lund, Ronnie Hendrickson and his sister, Lynn Foley, and the Carl Kroke children and the Art Ophaug children. In 1945, they had their first son, Raymond. In July 1973, he married Marlene Cody and they have a two year old son, Ryan. They reside in Devils Lake where he is second manager in the Farmer’s Union Elevator. David was born in 1946 and at the present time is in the Midway Islands. In 1982, he worked in Barrow, Alaska for four months. On May 6, 1983, he married Penny Ann Gannon of California. They were married in Hawaii. Penny is also employed at Midway. In 1950, their only daughter, Ellen was born. She lives in Northwood, N.D. with her husband, Mark Larson, son Nathaniel and daughter Sarah. They manage the Farmer’s Union Insurance Company. In 1953, their son, William was born. He died Jan. 1,1971 at the age of 17. Richard was born in 1955 and he married Sharon Gunderson in 1979. She is the music teacher at the Michigan Public School and they live in Michigan. They have a daughter, Heather Nicole. Richard is employed at the Cheese Plant in Lakota, N.D. Michael was born in 1956 and he lived in Denver, Colo, for a couple of years working as a carpenter. In Sept. 1982, he married Lora Anderson from Hemingford, Neb. where they now live. In 1958, Philip “Peno” was born and in 1979 he married Sarah Robinson, daughter of Maurice and Mary Lou Robinson of Michigan. They have a son, Bobby, and a daughter, Amy Jo. Philip is employed on the railroad and theMy arreks,i dteh ei ny Mouinchgiegsat ns.o n was born in 1960 on Mic_h ae„ls birthday July 5. He still resides with his parents and is employed with Forde Construction. Robert and Clara farmed for 20 years and in the fall of 1964 they moved into Michigan. Robert trucks cattle and other livestock to West Fargo, does farm work and crop spraying. Clara has been employed at the Michigan School for 19 years as a hot lunch cook. She is a Charter member of the Williams Homemaker’s Club which started in 1917 and has held the various offices of the Club. She has been the President of the Episcopal Guild for nearly ten years and at the present time is the newly elected President of the American Legion Auxiliary. Robert and Clara are members of the Episcopal Church in Lakota, N.D. Both Raymond and David were in the Army and spent time in Vietnam during the war there. In August 1979, Clara’s brother, Arnold Olson, passed away on the sixteenth, their grandson, Bobby, was born on the seventeenth and the eighteenth Richard and Sharon were married. On Monday, the twentieth, Arnold’s funeral was held. It was quite a weekend, sharing both sadness and gladness. When Robert was in his late teens, he took part in boxing matches in Mapes, Lakota, and Devils Lake and is still very much a boxing fan. 9% Scanned with a Czur book scanner at 300 dpi.
