Back row (1 to r): Stanley, Lucille, Gail, Odean and Mr. and Mrs. Seward Groff. Taken on their Golden wedding anniversary on Nov. 17,1967. Seward and Clara Groff Seward Groff, son of Bella and Ole Groff, was born Oct. 4, 1889 in a log cabin just across the Lee Bridge, on the right, in Lee Township. Clara Grafsgaard was bom in Hat­ton, N.D. on Feb. 27,1891, daughter of Anna and John Graf­sgaard. Seward and Clara were married at West Prairie Church on Nov. 17,1917. They had four children: Odean Belmont, bom July 13,1918, died in 1978; Gail Eleanor, born Aug. 28, 1920; Lucille Constance, bom July 22, 1925; Stanley Mor­ris, bom March 29, 1928. They have seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Seward and Clara celebrated their Golden wedding an­niversary on Nov. 17, 1967. Seward passed away June 11, 1975 in Tacoma, Wash, and Clara is still living in Tacoma, Wash. Julius and Kaia Hanson Julius Albert Hanson was bom in Field Township on Sept. 3,1884. He married Kaia Kroke in Melrose Township on July 17, 1917. She was the daughter of Ole and Anna Ophaug Kroke, and was bom in Lee Township on Jan. 31, 1893. They moved to Kloten in 1918. They were the parents of six children: Betty (Mrs. Arnold Hjelmen); Joanne (Mrs. Roger Thorfinson); Owen, Devoe, Russell and Philmon. Julius started as grain buyer at Kloten Grain Co. with K.M. Ellingson from 1918 to 1946. He also worked at Peavy Co., later at the Farmers Union Elevator until he retired. Julius died Oct. 8,1965 and Kaia died May 6,1969. Julius Hanson Mr. and Mrs. Martin Helgeland Martin and Mabel Helgeland Martin was born in Northwood, Iowa on Dec. 2, 1868. His family settled in Nesheim Township in 1882. Martin was a merchant, assessor of Lee Township for many years. He rode the first train between Cooperstown and McHenry. He also was treasurer of Lee Township, secretary of Kloten Fire Dept, and active in the Valley Grove Lutheran Church. Mabel Groff, daughter of Bella and Ole Groff was born July 15, 1884 in Lee Township in a log cabin near the Lee Bridge. Martin died August 1941 and Mabel died June 1972. Martin and Mabel were married Nov. 12, 1901 at Lee. They had five children: Irwin (deceased), married Lillian Carlson, they had four children: Mavis, Irving, Jacqueline and Lois and 11 grandchildren; Evelyn, died in infancy; Gilmore, married Lillian Carlson (both deceased); Sydney (deceased); Lillian, married Donald Freed from Hamp­den, N.D. (deceased). Lillian lives in Stockton, Calif, and they had three children Donald, Richard and Geraldyne. There were seven grandchildren and three great grand­children. William and Ella Krogh The parents of Ella Lofthus came to America in 1856. They settled first near Devils Lake and lived there nine years. Then they moved to a farm near McVille, N.D.
