The First State Bank of Kloten. The building on the right is Gertie Nelson's Cafe, which later became a grocery store. The First State Bank The First State Bank of Kloten was built by O.E. Lofthus in 1906. It was operated by O.E. Lofthus, assistant was Fred Evenson. Later it was sold to Charles Colson, and operated by his son, Gust Colson, with Clarence Kjeseth as assistant. Later Edwin Berg was assistant. It closed in 1929. The Post Office moved into the vacant bank building in 1930. W.A. “Bill” Krogh was Postmaster there until he retired in 1963. The Post Office was moved to its present site in 1965. Kloten Merchantile Co. Man on the right was the owner, Sigurd A. Krogh and next to him is his brother, William A. Krogh Kloten Mercantile Co. The Kloten Mercantile Co. was in operation from 1906 to 1938. O.K. Kjorvestad and Elling Severson were the first ones to open the store. Other managers were Sigurd Krogh, William Krogh, Bill Skjolden and Albert Field, who was the last manager in 1938. Ole Franklin Pool Room about 1909. Ole Franklin is on the right. Olaf Homme is on the left facing the car, also Wallace Homme. Others on the picture are believed to be Tom Moore, Dreng Roisland, Tom Homme, Tom Franklin, Tom Nomeland and Ray Wilton. The car in the picture is a Brush owned by Tom Moore. Ole Franklin Pool Room Ole Franklin started his pool hall in 1907. The building was next to the blacksmith shop on the south side. Also in this building, Philip Christianson was the first barber. Later Irwin Helgeland had a barbershop there. Elmer and Gertie Nomeland had a cafe in this building in the late 1950s. A second pool hall was built by Fred Nelson in 1908. H.E. Olson owned it for many years. Irwin Helgeland had a barbershop and bar in this building until 1940. Stegrin Arneson in front of the Kloten Harness Shop Kloten Harness Shop A harness shop was operated by Stengrin Arneson from 1907 to 1931. Mr. and Mrs. Arneson had one daughter, Alma.
