Kenyon, Minn., born Sept. 3, 1924; Donna (Mrs. Donald Jacobson), Binford, N.D., born June 4, 1927; and Dale, McVille, N.D., born July 3, 1931. They have 11 grand­children. Following their marriage, Art and Wilma rented a farm south of McVille on what was the A1 McDougal farm. Here they had cattle and chickens along with grain farming. Wilma remembers the terrible dust storms filling the house with dust. Later they moved to the Sheyenne River Valley, purchasing a farm from Louis and Ingeborg Helgoland in 1926. They lived there for the rest of their married life. They were able to help save their farm in the “dirty 30’s” by raising turkeys and selling strawberries, raspberries, plums and melons, mainly Wednesday and Saturday nights when the stores were open. The history of this farm goes back to Jan. 11, 1884 when Anfin Helgeland bought a quarter of land from the United States for the sum of $200. Also among the history papers is a certificate signed by President Benjamin Harrison, showing the sale of the other quarter to Ingebregt Halsten-son on Oct. 22, 1889. The ownership of the farmsite can be traced back as follows: (1) United States to Anfin Helgeland, Jan. 11, 1884; (2) Ingebregt and Gjertrude Halstenson; (3) Martin Helgeland, Anfin Helgeland, Em­ma Polis; (4) Louis and Ingeborg Helgeland; (5) Arthur and Wilma Quanbeck; (6) Dale and Darlene Quanbeck. Following the death of Arthur, Willma sold the farm to their son, Dale. Wilma continues to live on the farmsite. Arthur and Wilma Quanbeck and children Rona, Dale and Donna (1972). The Dale Quanbeck Family Dale Wesley Quanbeck was born in McVille, N.D. July 3, 1931. His wife, Darlene Mae Sateren Quanbeck was born in McVille, N.D. on Jan. 22, 1936. They were married at Center Lutheran Church, rural McVille, on Sept. 3, 1955. They lived and farmed in Nesheim Township, having bought the former Arthur Sundquist farm after renting it for several years. Following the death of Dale’s father, they also purchased the home farm from his mother. Dale has also worked as a carpenter for the past 20 years during the off-season from farming. He has been part of the Ker-mit Stenslie and Leslie Brooks Construction crews and also worked with the Curtis Construction Co. in the building of the New Luther Valley Lutheran Church in 1967, of which they are members. Darlene is employed at the Friendship Manor in McVille as a nurse’s aid, having been there for 12 years. She was also a former school teacher of Bergen No. 2 in 1954-55, staying at the Clifford Foreng and Ole Dronen homes. She taught at Norway No. 2 in 1955-56 following her marriage. Dale, son of Arthur and Wilma Quanbeck, attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minn, and was in the U.S. Army (1953-55), stationed at Ft. Riley, Kan. and Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. Darlene, daughter of Elmer and Irene Sateren, attended Mayville State College. As well as being active members of their church, they are involved in com­munity and school activities, especially in McVille Music Boosters and PTA. Darlene has been a members of Happy Homemakers for over 20 years. Their main family interest is music. Dale and Darlene have five children: Audrey Darlene (Olauson), Fargo, N.D., born Dec. 27, 1956; Brenda Dianne, Crookston, Minn., born Nov. 6,1958; Debra Dawn (Hoyt), McVille, N.D., born May 24, 1961; Ellen Doreen, McVille, N.D. and Minneapolis, Minn., born March 20, 1964; and Aaron Dale, McVille, N.D., born March 19,1969. They also have four grandsons: Christopher David, born Aug. 28, 1978; Anthony Daniel Olauson, born Jan. 13,1981; Travis Andrew, born April 5, 1978; and Lucas Dale Hoyt, born Jan. 9, 1981. Dale and Darlene currently live in the Sheyenne Valley next to Dale’s mother, Mrs. Wilma Quanbeck. Their home, which they built in 1964, is located on an 80 acre stretch of land which they purchased from the late John Fretheim. The Dale Quanbeck Family. Back (1-r): Debra, Audrey, Brenda, Ellen. (1980) Jacob and Ovidia Quanbeck Jacob and Ovidia Quanbeck Jacob Quanbeck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Svenung Quanbeck, and Ovidia Aslakson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harris Aslakson, were united in marriage on June 3,1925. They have lived in Nesheim Township all their lives, where they made farming their occupation. Jacob served as the township supervisor, R.E.A.
