Marian and Mrs. Ivers, back, Dr. Lewis Iverson Cora and Henry Hoyem Henry Hoyem, born in 1885, was a building contractor. In 1920 he and his wife, Cora, purchased the Christine Cafe, operating it for some time. Henry died in 1938 and Cora later moved to California where she remarried and is now deceased. They had five children, Alma, Stella, Emily, Carl and Joseph. Melvin Hoyem - Evelyn Hoyem ■ Melvin and Evelyn Hoyem •A Melvin Hoyem, the son of Albert and Hannah Hoyem, was born in 1903. He operated the telephone switchboard and a cream station in the Heyerholm Building and later worked for the Milwaukee Railroad. His wife, Evelyn, had a cafe in Christine for a time. He and Evelyn had three children, Gloria Nelson, Ramona Nystul and Rolph. Melvin died in 1976 at age 73. Evelyn makes her home in Moorhead. Dr. Martin U. Ivers Dr. Martin U. Ivers, a graduate of the University of Minnesota, received his doctor's degree there in 1902. He married Anna Jacobson of Abercrombie in 1903 and practiced medicine there until 1918 when the family moved to Christine. He continued to practice medicine here until shortly before his death in 1949. Mrs. Ivers died in 1965. They had five children: Louise, George, Ralph, Rosella and Marian. ■ ■ -•' ■ *■■■■ • i ' Dr. Lewis U. Iverson, taken around 1905. Dr. Lewis U. Iverson was born on Sept. 16, 1865 in Beaver Creek, Wisconsin. He grew up in Green Lake, Minnesota and graduated from the Medical School at the University of Minnesota in 1897. He obtained his certificate to practice medicine in North Dakota in 1.897, first going to Portland, N.D., and then coming to Christine in 1898, where he practiced medicine until his death in 1918. He built a clinic that remained here until it was torn down in 1976. He married Marie Wisnaes, the daughter of a pioneer Lutheran pastor who served several churches along the Wild Rice River. Their children were Eleanor, Elsie, Herman and Mildred. Mrs. Lewis Iverson, with Herman, Eleanor, Elsie and Mildred. 31 Scanned with a Zeutschel Zeta book scanner at 300 dpi.
