| Summary: | Wilma, Donna, Rona, Arthur, Dale (taken 1944) MR. AND MRS. ARTHUR QUANBECK Arthur, son of Thor and Betsy Quanbeck, was born July 4, 1895. His wife Wilma, daughter of Jacob and Carrie Farup, was born March 9, 1901 in Mcintosh, Minn. Art and Wilma were married October 27,1923. They settled on a farm near McVille, in Nesheim Township, to become farmers. Wilma taught country school near McVille for 2 years, and 1 year near Lakota. Arthur was a first World War Veteran. He was sent to France and returned when peace was declared. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1973. Arthur died August 12,1974. Their children are: Rona (Mrs. Victor Emerson) - September 3, 1924 - Rt. 2, Kenyon, Minn.; Donna (Mrs. Donald Jacobson) June 4,1927 - Binford, ND; Dale Quanbeck, July 3, 1931, McVille, ND. MR. & MRS. VARDON M. QUANBECK Vardon Quanbeck was born in McVille, ND, August 6,1921, to Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Quanbeck. He graduated from McVille High School and attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. During his early years he worked as a carpenter, storekeeper, and in the construction of the Alaska Highway in Yukon Territory in 1942-43. He was later employed with an oil exploration company in Texas. In late 1947 his father suffered a severe illness and he returned to McVille to assist in the operation of his father's business, Quanbeck Insurance Agency, and in 1956 purchased this business from his father. He has been an active member of the McVille Fire Department, Commercial Club, Hospital Board; Treasurer of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator, Community Lanes, McVille Development, New Luther Valley Lutheran Church and New Luther Valley Cemetery Association. He was the McVille City Auditor for a number of years. Marilyn (Gisselquist) Quanbeck was born in Centerville, SD, March 21, 1930, and her family moved to Minneapolis, MN, about 1937. Marilyn was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis at the time of her marriage to Vardon, February 14,1976. Since coming to McVille she has been active in the Hospital and Nursing Home Auxiliary and as New Luther Valley Lutheran Church Librarian. MR. & MRS. LUDVIG QUANBECK Ludvig Quanbeck was born in Nesheim Twp. Oct. 8, 19%; his wife Emma (Gudim) Quanbeck was born in Nelson County June 2, 1%3. They were married March 2, 1925 and lived and farmed in the community all their lives, most of their married lives being spent on their farm on the Sheyenne River in Nesheim Twp. now owned by Lee Quanbeck. Emma died Jan. 1, 1957 and Ludvig Nov. 26, 1%0. They had the following children: Marvin, Lee and Kent, all of McVille, N.D. Ardis (Mrs. Gordon Twedt), McHenry, N.D. and triplet daughters born in 1928 who died shortly after birth. Mr. and Mrs. Ingvald P. Quam and son Benjamin RUTH & INGVALD QUAM Mr. and Mrs. Ingvald P. Quam lived on the Oscar Larson (now Severin and Betty Larson) farm from 1924-1942. Ingvald was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Quam, and was born October 28, 1885. When Ingvald was about 17 years old, he helped his mother continue farming when his father died. Later he decided to continue his education, and attended Business College in Grand Forks, and also St. Paul. He married Ruth Agness Wold on December 23, 1920, with the ceremony performed by her father, Rev. S.S. Wold. Ruth was born November 15, 1893, at Jaynesville, Wis., and came to N.D. as a young girl when her family settled in the Pekin area. She attended the local school and Concordia College and taught school in the area for a time. The couple farmed near Hamar before coming to the McVille area. Their only child, Benjamin, who was born January, 1929, was adopted when he was a few months old. The family moved to Lakota when Mr. Quam was elected County Auditor, 1942, a position he held until 1%0, when illness forced him to resign, a month before his death. Ruth married Iver Raaen at Lakota in March, 1%5. She died Jan. 9, 1980. Benjamin graduated from UND and joined the U.S. Airforce. Captain Quam, who was a navigator, was killed on his last assignment, July 12, 1%3, in Spain before he was to be promoted to Major. His wife, Marjorie, died in an automobile accident on the same day, one year later.
