MR. & MRS. OLE G. OLSON Ole G. Olson homesteaded in Center Township and received his land deed on October 22, 1889. He was born in Jefferson, Wisconsin September 24, 1858. He married Josephine Olson on December 6,1916. In 1916 they moved into McVille. Ole was affiliated with the bank in McVille as a director. He died on March 25, 1935, his wife in November of 1957. There were no children born to this union. Mike and Julie Burnett, Arvid, Beth and David Johnson, Marlys, Jeff, and Miles Ophaug. MR. & MRS. MILKS OPHAUG Miles Ophaug was born in Field Twp. Decembers, 1926; his wife Marlys (Molmen) was born at New Rockford, ND November 22, 1930. They lived and farmed in Melvin Twp. from 1952 to 1962 when they moved to another farm in Field Twp. where they still live. Miles is a Director of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator Co. of McVille, McVille Community Lanes, Inc., McVille Development, Inc.; Durum Growers Ass'n., and the Nelson County Water Management Board. Both Miles and Marlys are active in Church and School activities. They have four children: Mrs. Michael (Julie) Burnett, Oakes, ND; Arvid, Kloten, ND; Mrs. David (Beth) Johnson, Kloten, ND; and Jeffrey at home. ANDREW AND EMELIA OLSON Andrew Olson was born at Listol, Telemarken, Norway, in 1849. He came with his father, Ole Kittelson, and brothers, Ole, Charles and Hans, and sisters, Signe, Belle and Clara, to Farmington, Dakota County, Minnesota, in 1869. Andrew and his brother, Ole came to Section 30 in what is now Lee Township in 1879. The two brothers walked from Hillsboro to this place. The rest of the family joined them in 1881. Andrew married Emelia Erickson in 1883 at the home farm in Lee Township. She was born in Norland, Norway, January 22, 1864, and came to the U.S. with her parents, the R.C. Erickson family, in 1872, from the Island of Dyroy in the Lofoten Islands, settling in Austin, Minnesota (Freeborn County). She and her parents came to North Dakota in a covered wagon in 1881, settling in Section 29, Lee Township and spent all her life in Lee Township, with the exception of the last few years when she was with her daughter, Mrs. R.R. Lofthus. Andrew and Emelia had three children: Frank, Leonel, and Hilda (Mrs. R.R. Lofthus). Emelia died February 19, 1951. ERICK AND MARIT OPHAUG Both Erick and his wife were born in Lorn, Gudbransdalen, Norway. Erick in 1871 and Marit Laugenes in 1873. They arrived in the McVille area in 1898 and homesteaded on Sec. 32, Field Twsp. They practiced diversified farming, and besides farming, Erick specialized in raising purebred Per- cheron horses. He also raised cattle and sheep. He was a director of the Sheyenne Telephone Company at its early inception, besides taking an active part in church and community affairs. Marit was a popular lady, helpful in sickness and need and was the area midwife. Erick and Marit lived in this community all their lives, Erick dying in 1937 and Marit in 1951, A son, Leonard, took over the farm at this time, but at this writing in 1979, the homestead is owned by a grandson, Ronald Ophaug.
