He began farming in Nash Township in 1967. On June 9,1978 he married Margaret Wald from Wishek, N.D. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks. The Wangens have two sons, Jason, born Sept. 11, 1979 and Troy, born June 30, 1983. Lawrence and Cathern Wangen Lawrence Wangen was born at Petersburg, N.D. on July 15, 1914 to Mr. and Mrs. Hans E. Wangen. He grew up in Nash Township and the Petersburg area. He attended school in Nash Township and is one of a family of eight children. Lawrence started farming at an early age and bought the John Kemp farm in Nash Township. He served on the Nash Township board for a number of years and has lived all his life in the Petersburg area. March 16, 1946 Lawrence married Cathern Evensizer, daughter of Walter Evensizer of Cando, N.D. She was born April 16, 1916 at Cando and grew up in that area. She graduated from the Cando High School and received a Second Grade Professional teaching certificate from Mayville State College. She taught school at Bisbee and Grafton. Mrs. Wangen served as clerk of the Nash School District several years. Lawrence and Cathern have two children; Susan (Mrs. Gregg Baker) of Gresham, Ore. They have two children, Emily and Brian. A son, Robert, married Joan Dirks of Osage, Minn. They also have two children, Douglas and Lisa. In 1973 Lawrence and Cathern purchased the Lars Ten- nison residence in Petersburg where they now live. Lawrence retired in 1979 from farming and Robert and his family now rent the farm. The Lawrence Wangens are both members of the Petersburg Lutheran Church. Ole and Ragnhild Wangen Ole Wangen was born in Norway in 1842 and came to Nash Township in 18%. He married Ragnhild Sorhjem and they had six children: Belle (Mrs. Carl Swenseid); Susie; Mattie (Mrs. John Nelson); Hans E.; Ole; and Lizzie (Mrs. Ed Snyder) all of whom are deceased. Osborne and Eva Wangen Osborne Wangen was born on Oct. 5, 1912 to Hans and Mary Wangen at Petersburg, N.D. He married Eva Leach of Bird Island, Minn, on June 8, 1940. Osborne and Eva moved to a farm in Nash Township where they lived and continued farming until they retired and moved to Michigan, N.D. on Oct. 22, 1975. Osborne served on the Nash School Board for several years. Six children were born to this marriage: Mary Ann (Mrs. Wayne Ensrud) of Tioga, N.D.; Jerome Wangen of Petersburg; Kathy (Mrs. Terrance Sateren) Coopers Cove, Texas; Patricia (Mrs. Neil Trautman) Juneau, Ala.; Audrey Wangen, Grand Forks; and Annette Wangen, Grafton. Osborne passed away July 21, 1978. Robert and Joan Wangen Robert Wangen was born at Grand Forks on Nov. 21,1951 to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wangen of Petersburg, N.D. He grew up in Nash Township and attended school in Petersburg where he graduated from Unity High School in 1969. Robert spent one year at the Aviation School at Hector Airport in Fargo and one year at the Hanson Trade School in Fargo where he studied mechanics. He then worked as a mechanic for Cordell Chrysler, Moorhead, Minn. Robert has one sister, Susan (Mrs. Gregg Baker) of Gresham, Ore. Oct. 25,1970 he married Joan Dirks of Osage, Minn. They lived in Fargo until 1973 when they returned to Nash Township where Robert farmed with his father; during the winter months he was employed by George Hildremyr at the Dodge Garage in Petersburg. He has also been employed as a truck driver for the Valley Grain Co. of Honeyford, N.D. Robert and his family live on the Lawrence Wangen farm, which he is now farming. Joan Dirks was born on March 27, 1949 at Cedar Falls, Iowa to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dirks. At the age of three years she and her parents moved to Osage, Minn. She has one sister and two brothers. Joan attended school at Park Rapids, Minn, and graduated from its high school in 1967. She then attended Brainard Vocational Tech and worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo as a nurse's aid and ward clerk. Robert and Joan have a son, Douglas, and a daughter, Lisa. Dwaine and JoAnn Wixo Dwaine Harvey Wixo was born to Harvey J. Wixo and Blanche Rodningen Wixo on April 10, 1941. His first home was in Adler Township until 1942 when he and his parents moved to the Clarence Rodningen farm in Nash Township. In 1943 his parents purchased and moved to the Erick Erickson farm in Nash Township. Dwaine graduated from the Petersburg High School in 1959 and attended Wahpeton NDSSS. On May 16, 1970 Dwaine married JoAnn Chyle in Park River and they lived for a while in the Bertina Miller house in Petersburg. Their daughter, Audra Anne, was born April 29, 1971. The same year they purchased the home farm and moved there and his parents moved into a new home in Petersburg. Dec. 12, 1977, their daughter, Amanda Jolene was born and their son, Matthew Dwaine was born July 26, 1980. Dwaine and his father farmed together until Harvey's death Sept. 2, 1980.
