| Summary: | Mr. and Mrs. Martin Landmark Martin G. and Ella Landmark Martin G. Landmark, son of Gulbrand Thomasson and Ingri Oldsdatter (Fystro) Landmark, was born in Norway on Oct. 2, 1868. He had six brothers and two sisters, Thomas, Ole G. (only one who remained in Norway), Gulbrand, Nils, Ole, Ingvold, Marit (Lien), and Dorthea (Olson); a younger half-brother and half-sister, Andrew and Ingrid (Anderson). His mother died in 1871 in Norway; the father, in 1880. He is buried in West Zion Cemetery, Pope County, Minn. Martin declared his intention to become a U.S. Citizen on Nov. 3,1890, in Stevens Co., Minn., and received his citizenship Nov. 1, 1900. By that time, he was homesteading in Sarnia Township where he received the patent on NWV4 of Section 9 on Feb. 13,1905. He purchased the SEV4. He was a Sarnia Township Supervisor in 1903-05. He married Ella Landmark, daughter of Ole T. and Ingrid Landmark. Their daughter, Irene (Mrs. Carl Lohre) was born Jan. 4, 1903. Ella died Jan. 27, 1904, at the age of 27. She is buried in the East Sarnia Cemetery. Martin moved back to the Starbuck, Minn., area where he died in 1943. Their house, no longer standing, was small with a ladder in the kitchen leading to the upstairs. It was built with the old square nails and the walls were filled with sand. (Old quilts and newspapers were other insulating materials often used.) Rooms had been added to the original structure to provide more space for families who lived there over the years. Nils Landmark Nils G. Landmark, brother of Martin, was born in Valdres, Norway, Oct. 31, 1858. He landed in New York in May 1881 and was an 1885 homesteader here. He never married. It is reported that he did bookwork for his Aunt Ingrid's Ladies Aid as that was considered "man's work." He was instrumental in helping organize the Sarnia Luther League in January 1908. He was a carpenter and helped build some some of the early barns in the area. He also lived and worked near relatives in Minnesota for a time, returning to Sarnia in his later years. He died at Lakota Hospital on Feb. 18, 1942, and is buried in the East Sarnia Cemetery. Ingvold Landmark Ingvold Landmark, born Sept. 18, 1887, son of Ole G. Landmark of Norway, nephew of Martin and Nils, came to America in 1909. He farmed for Ole O. Landmark in Section 2 for years. He moved south of Petersburg and lived in the Larimore area where he retired. He died in 1953. Arnold Larson family. Back: Marlys, Gust, Lloyd, Louise, Arnold Jr., Beatrice, Lorraine. Front: Gregg, Linda, Duane, Bessie, Arnold Sr., Kenny. Arnold and Bessie Larson Arnold Larson, son of Carl and Lydia Larson, was born July 21,1910 at Duluth, Minn. He married Bessie Adamson, daughter of Gust and Louise Adamson on Oct. 2,1927. She was born June 9,1910, and passed away on Oct. 8,1963. He died on June 4, 1976. They farmed all their lives and lived close to her parental home. The family is grateful for the love and support given to them by their wonderful aunts and uncles. Arnold was a good hunter and trapper. He made the first neighborhood haystacker and it was shared with the uncles. The children attended school and church at Whitman. Bessie was full of joy for the living, a friend and real help to all. Money was scarce but she had a gift for brightening each day. They are the parents of 12 children, eleven living: Lorraine, married Donald Mootz and has two sons: Matthew and Jeffrey, lives in Lakota; Louise, married James Van- Camp, Grand Forks, two children: Jay and Sue; Beatrice, married Jerome Mack, Grand Forks, three children: Mike, Michelle, and Mitchel; Arnold, Jr., Park River, married Shirley Kubat, one daughter: Mary Ann; Gust, Anchorage, Ala., married Judy Mayer, four children: Wanda, Penny, Vanessa, and Lincoln; Marlys, Euclid, Minn., married Gordon Love and has one daughter: Lisa; Lloyd, Gilby, N.D.; married Elaine Hodney, five children: Bonnie, Brenda, Brian, Beverly, and Bridget; Duane, Manhattan, Mont., married Linda Kinna, two children: Kimberly and Duane; Kenneth, Anchorage, Ala., married Vicki Krantz, two sons, Buddy and Arron. Arron drowned in the Mekong River in the Philippines on April 22, 1977, at age 5V2. This marriage was dissolved and Kenny married in 1979, has two daughters: Ericka and Crystal; Linda, Kodiak, Alaska, born May 27, 1947, has not married; Gregg, Forsythe, Mont., married Peggy Joe Holland, one girl, April.
