Summary:The Quarne Brothers, Oscar and Emil both homesteaded in Sioux Trail township. They at different times had stores in Rudser, Stady and Zahl before they began the business in Grenora. In 1915 they began dealing in farm implements and Ford cars. At that time the cars came in boxcars, stacked seven in a car. The bodies and fenders stacked in one end, the engines, frames and rear wheels in the other end. The E. P. Quarne family includes the following children: Geneve (Olson, Minot);' Ordean (Crowley, Colo.); Joe (Grenora); Margaret (Gudmunson, Minot); Thurzia (Blocher, Pueblo, Colo.) Barbara (Cannon, St. Paul, Minn.); Marylyn (Stady, Wise.); Emilie (Smith; Robert, Gordon, Imogene Yakimo (Larson), all of Grenora, and Arthur Yakimo (Ohio). Emil Quarne passed away in 1956. Mrs. Quarne (formerly Ella Lischke) resides in Grenora. The Oscar Quarne, Sr. family includes: Irma (Helgeland, Zahl); Harley(d.), Elizabeth "Betty" (Sorenson, Dagmar); and Oscar, Jr., ErwinJ., Donavon, and Edwin all of Grenora. Oscar Sr. lives in Grenora. His wife passed away in 1947. J. P. Quarne is presently serving as Mayor of Grenora. Joe and Betty Jean (Isaacson) Quarne are both originally from this area. They have two children, Michael (Anchorage, Alaska) and Maria Jean (Bry- son, Grenora). QUARNE TRAILER COURT A small hedge and grove of trees in the northwest corner of Grenora surrounds the Quarne Trailer Court. Development of the area was begun in 1962 and completed in 1964 to accommodate eleven Mobile Homes. Modern Laundry facilities complete the accommodations. Owner and manager of the court is Oscar Quarne, Jr., who is also employed at the Frontier Equipment in Williston. Oscar and Lila (Haug) Quarne, both natives of this area, have three children, Mary Lynn, Gregory, and Carol Ann.
