War I, Sam went into the army. On his return home he opened a bank in Kintyre and was there until 1926 when he accepted a job with the Federal Land Bank of St. Paul as an appraiser. He retired as vice- president because of bad health in 1946 and moved to Florida. He lived there until 1960, then moved to Arizona. Mr. Sam Day passed away on May 27, 1974, in Mesa, AZ. His wife passed away Jan. 12, 1976. Robin A. Day graduated from Bismarck High School in 1912. He worked at various jobs as well as in partnership with Sam in the McKenzie store until he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1916. He married Harriet Falconer of Bismarck on Dec. 2, 1917. They had two girls: Emma Jane and Polly Ann. He retired as a full Colonel in 1946 and lived in the Black Hills of South Dakota and Stewart, FL, until about 1970, when they had to give up keeping house and traveling. They are now with their daughter, Emma Jane, and her husband, Preston King, in San Marcus, TX. Their other daughter, Polly Wester, lives in Maryland. The Day's other son, Richard, received his grade school education in the Morton township school and graduated in 1924 from Bismarck High School and attended the College of Agriculture in Fargo until his father became ill and he had to take over the farming operation. He married Evelyn Mathena on Nov. 3, 1928. Evelyn was from Walthill, NB. The Day's raised four children: Wanda, who lives in Minot, ND; Rubin of Moffit, ND; Paul of Springfield, MO; and Donald of San Diego, CA. Richard (Dick) was active in community affairs. He served one term as a Democratic representative in the State House in 1937. He served as chairman of the South Burleigh Soil Conservation for many years, served on the school board and township board, also as Elder of the Glencoe Presbyterian Church. Dick was also a Flying Farmer and served in various offices, including president, of the North Dakota Flying Farmers. In the bad winters, when there were no roads, he flew many missions — carrying groceries, mail and transporting the sick to Bismarck, also taking children to school. Dick passed away on June 20, 1960, on Teslin Bay in the Yukon; the Day's had been on a trip to Alaska and the Yukon. He lived his entire life on his father's farm, which was also his grandfathers. Mrs. Richard Day lives in Bismarck, but continues to be very active in the Glencoe Church Altar Society.
