She was the daughter of Pierre (1873 to November 11, 1949) and Daisy (Brown) Pays (about 1870 to March 3,1916). Pierre and Daisy were married January 7,1896. Virginia's children are: Dorothy (Tipps) Zaste (January 27, 1928), John f. (Beef) DeCoteau (August 3, 1931), Richard (Sonny) Pays (July 12, 1944). T^ ^Ml Peter and Dorothy (Tipps) Zaste Family. PETER ZASTE — DOROTHY TIPPS Peter and Dorothy Zaste were married July 1, 1944, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belcourt. Pete and Dorothy have all daughters. Peter Elmer, born April 11, 1925, is the son of Ezear and Adele (Blackbird/Falcon) Zaste; and the Grandson of Alexander and Angeline (Ross) Zaste, and John and Margaret (Langer) Blackbird/Falcon. Dorothy (Tipps), born January 27, 1928, is the daughter of Virginia (Pays) Gourneau and William Tipps; and the granddaughter of Pierre and Daisy (Brown) Pays. Peter retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs on August 20, 1982 after over 30 years of service. Dorothy is currently working for the Couture School District as a vocational aide. Pete and Dorothy enjoy going to bingos, auction and garage sales. Their children held a surprise family dinner to celebrate with them their 40th wedding anniversary on July 1, 1984. Their daughters are: Betty Martell (December 24, 1945) married Richard Marcellais (January 23, 1947). Their children are: Shawn Joseph (August 22, 1970) and Chad Richard (December 26, 1975). Sharon Ann Zaste, born August 9,1945; deceased June 13, 1946. Donna Marie, born February 27, 1947, married Edward (Wimpy) Wilkie, born August 15, 1945. Their daughters are Vicki Lynn, born November 11, 1971 and Nikki Lee, born October 28, 1979. Theresa Dorothy Zaste, born and deceased June 24, 1949. Linda Marie (Zaste) Jeanotte, born July 9,1950 (nickname: Waxie) formerly married to Gary L. Jeanotte. Their sons are Terry Lee, born June 26, 1966, Gary Michael, born October 13, 1969, Ryan Colby, born May 11, 1977. Susan Sandra, born July 21, 1952, married Jonest Bercier, born April 28, 1948. Their son is Christopher Peter, born August 4, 1971. Marie (nickname: JoJo), born March 2, 1954, married William (Porkey) LaVallie, born May 29, 1953. Their children are: Nicole Marie, born December 27,1972; Monti Peter, born April 8,1974; Aaron William, born July 19, 1976. Cindy Jean, born June 27, 1957, married Clifford Charette, born October 3, 1945. Shelly Ann (Zaste) Herman Zaste, born November 21, 1960 and Mary Rose, born May 5, 1983. Formely married to Tommy Herman. Pete and Dorothy currently reside four miles northwest of Belcourt on Tower Road. JOHN B. ZASTE — JOSEPHINE ALLERY In the early 1900's John was married to his first wife, Margaret, they had three children. These children reside in Canada. He married a second time, to Josephine Allery. In 1927 they moved to the Turtle Mountains and resided south of Belcourt. Their children are: George, John, Isabelle, Evelyn, Rose Ann, Agnes, Lorraine and Sylvia. Around 1948 John and Josephine moved to Trenton, North Dakota, another Metis community. They continued to live in Trenton until their deaths.
