JEANETTE JOLLIE — RONALD LAVERDURE Jeanette "Jeanie" (Jollie) Laverdure was born December 28, 1946 in Belcourt. She attended all 12 years of school in Belcourt and graduated May 5, 28, 1964. After graduation, she attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, North Dakota for one year. Jeanie married Ronald Laverdure, son of John Laverdure, Sr. and Nora (Belgarde) Laverdure, July 2, 1966 at St. Ann's Church in Belcourt. Ron was born April 24, 1967 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He attended St. Ann's School and graduated from Belcourt High School in 1965. After graduation, Ron completed an x-ray technology course at the Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas and in 1967 they moved back to Belcourt where Ron was employed with the Indian Health Service as the x-ray technician until 1969. Ron enrolled in college at the State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota garduating in 1971, and received his degree in Business Administration from Mary College in Bismarck, North Dakota in 1973. From there they lived in Fairbanks, Alaska, Bismarck, North Dakota, and Aberdeen, South Dakota where they presently reside. Ron and Jeanie have two children: David who is 17 and Bill who is 12. Ron is employed with the Indian Health Service as a Contracting Specialist and Jeanie as a secretary to the Medical Care Evaluation Program. Science and a bachelor of science degree at Dickinson State College. Upon graduation he was employed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Lame Deer, Montana on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. Phyllis (formerly Phyllis Marion) graduated from Busines school at Minot State College in 1965 and was employed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs at New Town, North Dakota on the Ft. Berthold Reservation. Dave and Phyllis married on January 19, 1966 and flew to Juneau, Alaska where they worked for the BIA for three years. A daughter, Jolene Renee, was born in Juneau. Window Rock, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation was the next station for two years and another daughter, Carol Jean was born at Ft. Defiance, Arizona. From Window Rock the Jollies transferred home where Dave was the administrative manager for the local BIA. After two years in Belcourt, Seattle, Washington was home for five years. Dave was the director of the BIA Liaison Office for Alaska. Along with personnel actions and purchasing functions, this office operated the forty-man North Star III (10,000 ton victory ship) which took yearly supplies to the native villages along the Alaska coast, all the way to Barrow, Alaska. Phyllis worked for the National Service Corp. which recruited Health Personnel such as doctors, nurse practitioners, dentists, etc. to rural communities. Two daughters were born at Edmonds, Washington, Joy Danelle and Tami Sue. In May of 1978, the Jollies returned to Belcourt to set up permanent residency and to open Jollie's Fairway. JOLLIE — PHYLLIS MARION Mr. and Mrs. David S. Jollie grew up in Belcourt and graduated from the Turtle Mt. Community School. Dave received an associate degree in education from the Wahpeton State School of JAMES KAKENOWASH James Kakenowash was born February 22, 1918 to Flying Eagle and Mary Kakenowash at Belcourt. He grew up in the Turtle Mountains and married Rose Ponicappo at Rolla on November 8, 1947. She died October 7, 1975. James and Rose had five daughters, Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Desjarlais, Mrs. Dennis (Priscilla) Wilkie, Mrs. Gerald (Julia) Hoeger, Mrs. John (Theresa) Swain, Mrs. Vernon (Margaret) Azure and a son, Dennis. James died June 5, 1983. KAKENOWASH (FLYING EAGLE) Kakenowash (Flying Eagle) was born in 1861. He married Neonkapanet (Standing On All Fours). The parents of Kakenowash were Miskopinais (Red Thunder) and Kwaykuseskonaypek. The parents of Neokapawik were Chakasung (Haunted Wind) and Okemakezhekok (Mistress of Clouds). They had four daughters: Kijiwawapinisik (Sounding Thunder); Oshawashkokenapik (Green Feather) also known as Rose; Kenowiquay (Eagle Woman) also known as Emma married to Joe 393 Scanned with a Zeutschel Zeta book scanner at 300 dpi.
